One favorite movie isn't as hard as one favorite song but it's pretty close.....
Nightmare Before Christmas - Fantasy/Animation I love the story and the characters and Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors/producers ever.
What Dreams May Come - Drama The imagery is beautiful and the love story is amazing. That a man would sacrifice Heaven to be with his soul mate in Hell, knowing that he would eventually forget who she was and who he was... awesome, absolutely awesome.
Saw - Horror I love horror but I am very critical about the writing in horror films. The original Saw was beautifully written and utterly flawless.
The Orphanage (El Orfanto) - Drama It's actually listed as a horror film because it's a ghost story but I don't classify it that way because the story is so beautiful and positively heartbreaking that it's better listed as a drama than a horror film.
Swing Kids - Drama World War II has always fascinated me, especially the behind the scenes stuff. Swing Kids is a very sad story about the dissolution of friendship between two German teens who are rebelling through the American swing movement when one friend decides to become a Nazi SS soldier. Very sad. But the final scene makes it all worth it.
Okay I'll stop now.

The Nightmare Before Christmas was cool! Burton is the man! And you gotta love those Danny Elfman scores! I only saw a little bit of What Dreams may Come. Although I have to admit the story sounds interesting. Saw and the Orphanage were great! Pans Labyrinth also great! I don't remember a lot about Swing Kids, as I saw it a long time ago! Thanks.

Oh, I have so many to list! OK, I'll limit it to a few.
Seven Samurai - one of the best films ever made, in my opinion.
Shall we dansu?
The Wicker Man (no, not the new one that sucked horribly)
Sonatine
Alien (the original)
Delicatessen
The Seventh Seal
I could add about a hundred more great movies, but those all rank pretty darned high! Oh, and 'Love, Actually' gets a special mention since it's important to me and my partner. :)

I love Akira Kurosawa movies! Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Ran. Deicatessen was sick in a good way! I haven't seen the original Wickerman, Sonatine, Love, Actually or the Seventh Seal although the last one is in my Netflix queue along with some other Bergman films. Thanks.

I hope you not gonna mind if I mention couple of them
Action/SF - The Matrix - definitely one of the best movies ever made, first movie with 'bullet time'.
SF - Alien and Terminator. Unique ideas! In 'Alien' every single detail was drawn by hand! And you have to love Arnold. :)
Comedy - I have to say Ace Ventura I and II, but that is just my opinion. Carrey's sarcasm and jokes are priceless.
Crime - this is the tough section. But I'll say Pulp Fiction. Than you have Se7en, Goodfellas, The Usual Suspects etc.
It is hard to say which one is my favorite but 'Braveheart' is really special movie for me.

I like fantasy movies. Movies in which things are shown which are a part of fantasy. Just like Jurassic Park(all part), Godzila, Armagadon, Resident Evil etc.
Although my favorite is Titanic. I like this movie because Kate has shown her asset in it.
kidding. I liked it because of the sinking scenes of The great ship, Titanic.
