I begged with my Boss that I want to work on the holidays!

Contrary to what everyone's wishing for the long breaks/ holidays, I wanted to really work on those days. While all the others are filing for vacation leaves, going out of town, I begged my Boss to allow me to report for work.
Our office declared Dec. 22 and Dec 23 as "Forced Leave" for employees. I have written a request memo to my Boss to allow me to work and disregard the forced leave. And she approved it! I was so happy!
I really love working, especially when everyone's on leave, I can do many things: no phone calls, no interruptions, no hassles. Just pure work.
What about you? Would you rather work or have your vacation?

Well, I have to say that I do not have the same type of job as you do. I cannot imagine working over the holidays. I like to be with friends and family. If I were away from all of my loved ones, I might prefer to work.
I guess if I had no better plans, it is preferable to have a paid day of work than to sit at home with nothing to do.
I hope that you take some time off at another time of year. Vacations are important to the health lol.

Hi surveytaker! i want to be with my friends and family too! but my family's away and my friends, i think they have to spend their holidays with their own family too. in my case, i am too workaholic and probably just staying home would not calm me down. i would still think of the workload at the office left undone, and unprocessed papers staying on my desk. i think i would just be more relaxed and calmer when i'm in the office. yes, maybe its just me.! =)
thanks for the response! if i would have planned a trip or vacation out-of-town long way before the holidays, maybe i would just take the forced leave. just, maybe. =)

Different time different treat.
If I have bad mood, I prefer work than vacation. Because the work makes me forget the bad things, give me peace. I have space to rethink something.
If I have good mood, I would take the vacation, make merry while one come. You release your stress, this is better than a mental treatment, I think. And then, you have better spirits to do work.
In my point, do what you want in common days, but the holiday is a happy day, why don't you give yourself off?

I hate the thought of unfinished tasks at work, but our offices close over the holidays, and there is no way they will open for one or two individuals who would rather come in.
My plan of action is to flog my boss up until the 24th, and then what is not done will just have to wait.
I plan on visiting family over the holidays, and given the choice I would certainly rather be with them than sat behind my desk.
:)

Holidays are for family. I was once like you working for others and when they decided to sack me they never think twice. I would encourage you to think about yourself and what this holiday means to you. I remember upsetting with workers who didn't want to turn up when I asked them to. I was branch Manager for there store. When it comes for them to put in their friends no overtime, extra revenue that they received under my stewardship was of any used.
So my friend even if you have no where to go take the leave and go home. I am talking from experience.

i love holidays of course but during this time, the worsening economy crisis. i really wanted to work rather than staying home or going out. now, we only have two- three days work in a week. its really hard and it didnt happen before. so i feel like when there are chances i will grab it no matter what.fortunately, my boss also qualify my apllication to work until the month ends(because now they only choose people base on their standings on their work before). so, i was happy about it and think of it as a gift this Christmas!
