Do race really matter?

Do you think that race still matters? I want to know perspectives from many different countries. In the U.S., I think that people are now more accepting of all races. I think this depends on the area that you live in as well. I was just wondering if you still think that the world is a racist place? With many mixed race couples today, would you have a problem being involved with someone of another race? If you have children, would you have a problem with them dating someone from another race?

I don't think that race should matter but often times it does. I think that reason is not so much race as much as it is culture. When getting involved with someone of a different race there is alot to be considered. Religion, tradition etc. I personally would not have a problem with it if I wanted to be with someone of another race. i think that it is like that for people more and more as we tend to blend. I hope there is even more acceptance as time goes on.

It's truely a shame too. There is so much that can be learned from one another no matter where you come from, what you believe or what race you were born in to.

I agree, I think culture and religion play a big part in discrimination. People like to put something down that they do not understand.

Racism is still with us but I feel people have and are still continuing to become generally more tolerant of one another. I come from a long line of multi-racial people. I married outside my chosen race of identity. My children are so mixed that most people look at them and cannot figure out what race they belong to, so I suppose it safe to say that they shall surely marry outside of their race since they are so uniquely blended. It will be interesting to see what the racial situation is like several hundred years from now.

I agree, I think people have become much more tolerant. I also think it will be interesting to see where racisim stands in the future.

I don't think it matters as much as it used to, though I wouldn't doubt that there are still some racist people out there. I never had a problem with different races. I don't care if a person is black, white, purple, orange, green. It doesn't matter to me. I'm happy to say that I'm a product of a biracial relationship and am in a biracial relationship of my own. I wouldn't have a problem with my kids dating someone from a different race. All that matters to me is their happiness.

Around where I live, in Canada, I don't get the impression that it is. It's simply my impression. I may be wrong. However, I do think that there are still some places that still face racism. I would not be surprised. Where? I'm not sure. But I haven't done much research on the matter.

Race definately does not matter, it comes down to the individual. I am from Australia and racism has certainly gone down over the years like many places, especially since we are such a multicultural society. However there are still plenty of people who do discriminate against different races. I find that these people are generally the more shallow minded people. These are the people who automatically think that a person wearing a turban must be a terrorist..which is of course rediculous. I'm not sure if these people are just uneducated, or just completely narrow minded. I know that there are plenty of these people in my work place, as they tend to resort to writing their thoughts on the matter on the walls of a toilet cubicle. Things like the swastika etc. I really dont understand it.

I think that there are individuals like that all around the world. I am glad to hear that you think your country is not racist though.
