i can't believe how shallow comedy is nowadays. People would cuss then other people laugh at them. Skits on television sometimes dont show a funny message, but a sick, profane and dirty message. And still people praise them and think they're so funny.
this happens not just in television but also in my classes. My teacher would rant about something and say a bad word and then everybody wakes up and laughs. I mean, how shallow? You're not laughing at the joke but at the profanity.
Green jokes.what more can i say? if this is the only type of thing that makes you laugh then..my goodness..
Some people even make fun of race and gender just to generate laughter. I mean, dont be insensitive.
There are so many ways to have fun and laugh. I just hope people will have enough sense in their heads and not just laugh because another person says "f*ck".

Yes, I totally agree, although I must confess I didn't know what the term "green joke" meant but that's probably just showing my age.
I really don't care for all the "four letter" words either in comedy. It didn't used to bother me as much, but for the last ten years or so I keep thinking, "How does that add to the comedy I'm watching?" It doesn't, at least in my opinion.
And I agree that most of the so called comedies on television aren't really funny, at least to me. That may just be me, but I still agree with you. I can do without the silly skits that rely more on profanity and dirty jokes than obvious talent.

Absolutely. If they have to have dirty jokes and four letter words just to be funny, then how talented could they be.
And no worries about not putting an explanation about "green joke" in your post. I'm guessing the majority of people know what that means already. I'm just out of the loop sometimes with phrases today.
It's just refreshing to see young people especially speaking out against this. Thanks for your post. Interesting and good to read.

Read George Orwell. His analysis is relevant to the situation you are describing. Words, jokes, profanity as substitutes for thought?

The correct term is "blue" humor, in regards to off-color or dirty comedy.
Not all comedians today work "blue." Brian Regan makes a great living doing very clever "clean" comedy. Jeff Foxworthy also works very clean.
Conversely, not every comedian who uses "bad words" is unfunny. Doug Stanhope uses much profanity in his act, but is incredibly funny and thought-provoking at the same time. Very similar was the late Bill Hicks, commonly hailed as among the greatest comedy minds of our time.
Yes, there are many comedians who cuss to cover their lack of punchlines, just as there are many comedians who do not swear yet remain painfully unfunny.

thanks for putting another point of view about the topic. I agree with what you said that there are comedians who cuss but are also funny. I liked that you used the word thought-provoking because that's what jokes should be all about. A way to make us learn or realize something. I will try to find comedy Brian Regan though. I have very little knowledge of comedians with a clean act

I must say that I have never heard that type of joke refered to as a 'green joke'. I do agree with what you have said. I think that many comedians make fun of others and this is the way they get their laughs. They also use vibrant language to describe things, when other words could be used.
I think that society likes to copy others. If you see someone else laughing, you are more likely to laugh. I think that someone started laughing at these jokes and it just caught on. People laugh at what they are told is funny. If they see people around them laughing, and they do not think the joke is funny, they are more likely to laugh just to fit in.
I do not agree that we should make jokes about such things, but I think that is the current world that we live in.
