More about cheating on sites - mylot and ciao

Thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier discussions about cheating. I'm especially grateful to those who pointed out I can report abusers by using the ! button. I followed your advice and the copied postings were removed, but not the mylotter - which Im actually happy about. Mylot gives second chances and hopefully this person will think twice before cheating again.
my dear mylotters, I know most of you out there are honest. However, if you have thought about cheating on ciao or mylot, please do reconsider. Also, tell people you know who may be copying and pasting to stop doing so. This only hurts our community. Also, while I don't plan to write any reviews on Ciao soon, I will be reading reviews and not only reporting the abusers, but I will be rating their reviews not helpful and commenting on why...

how does a person manage to cheat on mylot? i thought it recognized the copying?

i am curious at how you define cheating cos at times i cut and copied my reply in mylot and uses them on another similar threads. the repetition rate in topic/threads is very high in mylot and sometimes i am too tired to type again my contents when i have already given out my advice to so i would just cut and paste it since i am entitled to do so. I am replying to the question the member asked so am i considered as cheating too in your definition??

The type of cheating that annoys me is when a person passes someone else's work off as their own. Truth be told, I don't know if what you do would be considered cheating. Perhaps it is a gray area - can you plagiarize yourself? Some sites think so, like reviewstream, for example. In Ciao, I think if you say that the review has been published elsewhere, it's ok.
On another note, what adds to the confusion is that mylot pays us money to contribute to the discussion. None of us know how they calculate this, though so again, this becomes a gray area. Let's say you did write a reply on one discussion. You get paid for replying. If you use that reply again, then (maybe?) you were paid again. Others might think of that as cheating, since you're making money by repeating yourself, instead of contributing original ideas, which is what this site is about. Of course, it could be compared to books or songs that writers and composers own rights to - whenever someone reproduces or uses their work, they get royalty payments for it. So are you cheating? That really depends on mylot and what they consider cheating.

yes, i can see the views u are coming from and it is an area where i think there is no definite right or wrong in my opinion esp if the reply is composed by the same person. i feel that the reply can be used again as again due to the repetition in this forum. of course, i would try to do some changes or amend in such a way that it fits the threads or question asked. but for those who copied others work, it is very clear that that is cheating cos they are passing off someone's works as their own and that should be penalised.

but how do u define cheat action ?
do you only according to pastting or copy ? i dont think it is a serious thing.

I hope you are also aware that by pressing that very same buttton even without a violation present in the discussion the discussion is removed...and this I believe can be done by anyone from the previous posts I have seen with my time on the Lot.
I do believe this type of harrassment is called trolling. Now I understand your reasoning behind this on why you did it, but there are others out there who do this simply to get a kick out of harrasssing people.
In fact I may have had it done to me. But I did contact Mylot concernign the matter and if that is the case I hope they can figure out who would do such a thing. Because like you I don't like cheaters, nor trouble makers. And there is a difference between reporting an abuse or actual violation and then there is just some down right ugliness out there.
So with that "Welcome to the Lot" and I look forward to hearingfrom you.
Oh and ps...since I have heard that Mylot does not actually view the discussions being deleted (again I have only heard this) I do not rate anyone on here except if it is blatant abuse.
Otherwise you have people who will give a - if they do not agree with you...and that's not fair because everyone has an opinion in my book.

I agree with you that people shouldn't cheat. It really is a waste of their time but every time you have something good going on you will have some who try to cheat the system. It is unfortunate.
Do you really understand the extent of the task you are setting for yourself? Do you really plan on spending all your time policing these sites to catch and report those who are cheating? If you do then they are not only wasting their time but yours as well.

hi mariab,nice that you have raised the issue and got results too.yes cheaters should be caught.after all in no way an honest mylotter should lag behind.in ciao its understandable as many people copy and paste the reviews but whats the advantage in mylot,i fail to understand.happy mylotting.

Thanks for starting this discussion. You are right and I think the cheaters should be seriously banned from the site.
I really get bugged up seeing people writing copied review on ciao. I mean what is the use of writing in the first place if they can't jot down a few lines of their own experience!
On ciao you have to write a long review so it is to some extent considerable (but not pardonable) to see people copying reviews but here on mylot isn't it a pathetic thing that to give their own opinion people copy the stuff!! I mean it's just a discussion and that too of one's interest. Those people might as well look at others to find some thing useful to speak in their daily lives too!
If they are so desperate to earn money then I suggest them to use their energy in some fruitful thing rather than spamming these sites!

Hi. I am actually a victim of those copying. Four of my reviews were copied. What i did is i send an e mail to ciao and reported the abuse that i experienced. after the report that i did, i was informed that the account is already blocked. I am very happy that happens. we should protect our reviews from any fraudaulent actions..thanks for sharing your experience here.
