I wish that we could edit our posts...

I just finished writing a discussion involving a stock that I owned, which dropped from about 22 to 16 overnight. I referenced the image multiple times. Then I added the image or so I thought. After it posted without the image, I couldn't help but feel a little bit like an idiot for telling people to look at a picture that isn't there . So I was thinking, it would be nice if we could edit. I know that I could use that feature a lot. I know they would have to do something so that it is clear what the edit is. Otherwise people would change their posts after comments have been made, and things would make no sense. But what if we could add stuff. Just think about this. Imagine you see my post, telling you to look at my picture that isn't there. Then you see in red letter Edit: myLotter edited post at 10:45AM 12/23/2008. After that there would be a picture. Or if people forgot to put any important information in the post, there could be that edit message, and then they could say what they forgot to say. With this feature, we could correct oversights, while still keeping the original post in tact. Do you think this could be useful?

This is a very good idea, brian_s. When I first was able to post pictures, I thought I showed pictures of cupcakes I made but some other cupcake picture of someone else was posted and that was embarrassing. I wanted to edit that discussion so badly because I didn't want others to think that I'm stealing someone else's pictures. I also like the whole "edit" text part. That way what the initial thoughts of the mylotter will still be there so when we get into HEALTHY debates about the discussion topic, he or she can't edit it and say I DIDN'T say that but they did. I'm writing this in a rush so I hope I'm making sense. If not, then I wish for that edit feature you asked for.

Thanks SaintAnne. I see that our thoughts on this are pretty much the same.

well, it really sounds a good idea and just yesterday i sent a message to my friend to ask for some help about how to edit my responses because i wannted to add some extra informations. and so upset i was when he told me there are no means to remedy what i had responsed. as a rookie here, sometimes incorrect words or oversights more or less seem to be even inevitable for me and it will be more convenient and humanity for most of mylotters to post and response. merry chrismas and happy mylotting.

Well, even though it will be nice once myLot does something about this, you will find that myLotters will be understanding about any mistakes you make in that regard.

Yes, editing our posts could be a great advantage. I make the same mistakes as not posting pictures when I really want to and then feel stupid and attach it again separately, but its not the same then. Also when I am typing very fast, I make typo errors and then I again feel like a fool. But I feel that if we could edit, we would go on changing our posts to suit various responders or our own changing moods and views and then our original comments would have no meaning.

I agree with your completely. In fact, many forums have the option "edit",and it generally helps the poster to add something important that he forgot to post. I think it is of great use. I don't know why mylot do not have this.

Ofcourse it would be absolutely useful... Even i have made blunders like dat.. and other spelling, grammatical mistakes too... I dont usually re-check and i read it d 2nd time only after it appears as a new discussion.. When i find some mistake dat time i feel like an idiot!!! Once i omitted some important info, but i added dat particular line as a tag so that i would atleast appear as someone one step lesser than a complete idiot :)

Well, I think most of us make those kind of mistakes from time to time, so while we may feel like idiots, all the people who read it probably understand that it was just one of those mistakes.

That's a pretty good idea, but the person that created the discussion could, if he wanted, completely change the discussion, creating a lot of confusion. Now, imagine that everyone could do that. Mylot would become extremely confusing.

You are right that it would be terrible if people could hide what they have previously written. That's why I was thinking that there could be a line added that says its and edit, and then they could add corrections. Maybe it is less of an edit per say, and more of an addition.

Yeah, I guess that's what I'll have to try to do for the stock discussion I posted.

That would be nice, but when you get 500 posts, then you will be able to add the images later, at least. Yes, I would like to be able to fix mistakes, like when the fingers fly faster than the brain---typos!

Oh, I didn't realize that you can add images later after 500. I guess that is my next goal then. Who knows, maybe you can edit your posts after 6000, and you just don't know it yet.

I guess that would really, really be useful for myLot users. I've had mistakes of my own too when posting discussions and responding. Sometimes i forget to upload the photos which i always to whenever i create a new discussion. Sometimes whenever i respond i get words mixed up so i never had the chance to edit and correct my work. Sometimes the title of the discussion itself is wrongfully done so there's no way for me to correct it. Sometimes there are double posts too and there's no way to delete it.

Misspelled titles can be quite embarrassing.
