Is love more important in a relationship or respect?

What do you think is more important for a lasting relationship, love for each other or respect. As far as I am concerned, I think resepct is more important because if you respect someone you tend to love them automatically.On the other hand it is not necessary that we respect the one we love as we do stick around with people who are nasty and selfish and do not treat us well but we love them and want them to be a part our lives. What do you think?
