Hello to all my very good friends and to the new friends in my life!! I wanted to introduce you to my new little bundle of joy!!His name is Dexter. He is a shi-tzu. He is so adorable I just can't stand it. Some of you will remember when I lost my precious little Bogie. You were all so helpful in letting me know that even though it had only been a couple of months since my loss, that it was ok if I felt that I was ready to get another puppy. I decided at that time to just wait until the time was right. I'm a firm believer in everything happens in it's own time. Even still, I have been so lonely without Bogie. My hubby called him my outfit. He followed me everywhere. I've also felt very vulnerable, when I'm home alone. My hearing is not that great and I nap in the afternoon so just having even a small dog like Bogie and now Dexter will give me the security back that I have been lacking.
Do little dogs make you feel safe? Or do you feel that big dogs are necessary for your sense of security?
There are more pictures on my profile. Hugsss to everyone!!

Dexter is precious. I know you do feel much better having him around now. My dog is an italian greyhound and he is small, he was weighed yesterday at the vet and he weigh's 13.6 lbs. He can get out in the yard or even in the house and play around and bark funny but if you let a stranger come in the house he sure does change his tune so to speak. He sounds like he is a great dane with his barking and growling, he won't leave my side. So yes, I do feel safe even with a small dog around.
Congratulations on your new addition. Now I am off to go see the other pictures of yours.

Hi tyc,
Dexter is adorable isn't he? He is so lively. He just loves to play. He wore me and himself out, we had to take a nap. I have no idea how much he weighs. I'm going to have to weigh him. Do you have a picture of your dog? I'd love to see him.Hugssss

Yes I did! I had a shi-tzu about 10 years ago. I still think of Chico often. We did a lot of running together. He kept me in shape. Have fun!

Hi Che,
So why don't you and hubby have a dog? I was devastated when I lost Bogie and just couldn't feel safe without another one. Dexter was born across the street and practically fell into my lap. He is so precious. I just love him. Tell me why you don't have one.

Dexter is sooo adorable leenie! I love his coloring. I've always had small dogs so I know what you mean and, yes, small dogs can make you feel more secure... mine does when I'm home alone. I have a 6 year old miniature schnauzer named Sunshine (pic on my profile). Actually, he just had bladder surgery Friday to remove bladder stones. I feel sooo bad for him and he looks really pathetic right now lying in his bed with one of those cones on his head so he won't mess with the incision area. Poor thing has internal stitches and staples on the outside. :(
I'm sorry about Bogie. I know how hard it is to lose a pet. I had 2 other schnauzers when I was growing up and I still miss them both terribly. I hope that Dexter will help ease your pain a little bit. Take care of your new bundle of joy!! :)

LoL - they sure DO look funny with those cones on their heads. Right now my little guy is lying in his bed and he looks soooo depressed wearing that thing. You said that Dexter brought the "sunshine" back into your life... that's why my son & I named our dog "Sunshine", because he was a great comfort to both of us when my son's father & I separated and eventually divorced. Sunshine really helped us through the whole ordeal. How old is Dexter now? Does he still have that wonderful puppy smell? lol

Hi Koala,
I really feel bad for little Sunshine. I have had so many dogs over my adult lifetime and had to have surgery on some with those cones. What a drag those things are. The little or big dogs look at you like please take this thing off!! It breaks my heart.
Dexter has brought my sunshine back into my life. He makes me laugh out loud. He is the most fun pup I can ever remember having.
Thanks Sweetie xoxoxo

How sweet your Dexter is! I love little dogs! I have two teacup chihuahuas. I don't feel security from them in the way their attack would secure me but I do know if someone was messing around outside or trys to come in..they would let me know.

Hi Jen,
Welcome to mylot!! You have probably have been here a little while now. I hope you are enjoying our little gathering place.
Thanks for your nice wirds about Dexter. I went into your profile and checked out your little Darlings. They are adorable. When I say secure, I mean that he will alert me to someone being outside. My hearing is not that good, so I need all the help I can get. Merry Christmas!!

Hi leenie...I'm only just now coming to this discussion and I saw the adorable photos of your little baby, Dexter and he's so cute. Well, I don't have dogs, but two very highly pampered kitties...one is Pyewacket (the inspiration of my user name) an all black cat and will be celebrating his eighth birthday June 17th, and he is most definitely the boss of the home. Kissy is a tiger-striped cat, will be ten on October and a bit of a timid thing. Both love to keep me company while I'm in bed for the night. Those two are quite literally my only family now, as both my mother and grandmother are gone. I do have family in Calif but not close...so these two babies of mine are indeed my family

Can you say: Cutie Pie!? Dexter couldn't be any cuter. I'm sure Bogie is smiling on you both. Big or small, dogs alert us of things not right, their size doesn't maiier much to me as long as they guard and alert. Dexter looks as if he's right for the job.

Yes I can. And he is the cutest little cutie pie I know. I feel so much better now when I'm home alone with Dexter. Like you said, size doesn't matter. When his ears perk up, I know he has heard something. Dexter is perfect for the job. Thanks sweetie.

What a fabulous Christmas gift! Dexter can take the edge off all that's gone wrong lately. At least now and then, you and Dennis will have a genuine laugh, and those are too hard to come by these days!
Have a fabulous and care-free Christmas.
XOXO,
Joanne

I am so glad that you have found a new friend or should I say a "new outfit" in Dexter.. I hope you two guys have many, many years together.. I have a little dog and she can run circles around a big dog anyday, I would bet my money on her.. Anytime anyone comes to my door, she barks like a big dog, she really does sound ferocious and someone outside couldn't tell the difference if they didn't know.. She is a great protector and I do believe she would bite if someone came in while we were gone.. She is the greatest little dog in the world and makes the perfect size little lap bundle while I am watching tv.. She also rules the roost and I think she knows it.. Good luck with your new puppy, I hope for all things good for the both of you..

Hi Donna,
Merry Christmas,
I have a great little puppy. We took him on an hours trip to see my husbands family and he slept in my lap most of the trip. When we were in the house and among lots of people, he was fine. He didn't mind others holding him. We all had a good time. I look forward to his guarding me.
Merry Christmas!!
leenie
P.S. Your little one is precious!

Thanks dream for all the compliments for Dexter. I would not have gotten him if my neighbor across the street had not practically gave him to me. I knew her two had puppies but not the details till I saw them all outside one day. When she heard what happened to my mini dachshund she asked me if I was interested. I couldn't wait till I got him, Christmas Eve. I'll get more pictures up soon. Hugsss

Hi bh,
You are right about my husband being a little jealous. I'm going to have to make an effort to try and keep him happy. My hubby is glad to see me happy again. I;ve been really lonely without Bogie and very insecure being here alone. At least Dexter can alert me to someone outside.
Have a Merry Christmas!

Hi me,
I am so happy with little Dexter!! He is so cute and makes me laugh all the time. It's been a long time since I've had a puppy around. I've forgotten how much fun they can be. It's going to be a little tough housebreaking him, but I'm up for the task. I think Bogie would be happy with my decision on Dexter.

Dexter is a gorgeous little fellow. Very nicely marked. I wouldn't part with my Maltese puppy for all the money in the world and we are definately low income.

Hi Grandma,
Thanks, I haven't seen you around lately. I missed you. Your little one is a beauty also. I think Dexter is a pretty handsome little dude. I love little dogs. They are much lower maintenance, unless of course you want to show them.
Merry Christmas Grandma!

How absolutely wonderful! I had a dog a few years ago.....and had him for 13 years...I have not gotten another one since. And I don't plan on it..for a while I thought maybe but I still miss my Reggie and don't want to replace him. I did feel safe too when he was around.....and he gave me a total sense of security! I am soooo happy for you! Merry Christmas!

Thanks drannhh,
I'm sure Dexter will help alert me when he hears something outside. That makes all the difference. I don't expect him to chew a leg off. Although you never know. I love cats too, but my husband is highly allergic to cats. Merry Christmas!!
