People Who Use "Disabilities" To Get Over

I want to start out by saying that I have nothing against anyone who has a learning disability. I was having a hard time in my biology class (I ended up passing in the end). But before that, I was studying hard. However I still wasn't making the grades that I should've been. There was one girl in my class who told everyone she never studied and would talk about how she went out and partied and got drunk. So later on in the term she dropped the class, I guess she was flunking all the tests too. I remembered her from my first biology class, and she did the same thing that time too. So a week after she dropped the class, she came into the counselor's office where I worked and her mom was telling the counselor's that she had a learning disability and the classes were too hard for her so they said that they'd change her grade! Yeah, I was eavesdropping, but that's not the point. I don't think it's fair for her to talk about how she doesn't study because she's drunk, but when she's failing she just whines and says she has a learning disability and they let her pass. As always feel free to share your thoughts and experiences.

I have never heard of changing grades because of a learning disability before. I know that those with a learning disability get special priviledges at my college. I think that most of it is understandable. I find that it makes some people with a learning disability very lazy though. They do not have to take any notes for themselves, which I can understand, but many of them sit in class and play games because they know they are not responsible for taking their own notes. I do not think this is fair. I also find that it does not prepare them for the real world. One person in particular could not write a two sentence email to ask for a time to meet. I do not mean to say that she could not do it, but she knew someone else would do it for her and would therefore not do it herself. If you cannot write a simple email, I do not see how you will survive in the bussiness world where people will not cater to special needs. In some ways, I think the system is setting them up for failure. When they are in the real world, they will not get special treatment for their disability because they are expected to perform on the same level as everyone else.
