A few you must have read my discussion about me getting caught here at work browsing the internet. As you may have guessed, yes I got caught again. This time nobody called my attention or warned me. My direct supervisor just showed me a printout of the screen shot about me logging in to my e-mail. To think that I was just starting to browse sites! LOL.
My supervisor was supposed to suspend me so I asked him If he can plot those there days on a certain day like Christmas or New Year because we still get to work during holidays. He just said I'll just give you a verbal warning.
My other officemate got suspended because she was caught twice with a screen shot. A lot of people are getting suspended these days because internet access is currently open here at our workplace.
Yes I'm at work and I am one of those stubborn people still breaking the rules. . Sorry really can't help it. Technical support is a very stressful job and doing other things over the night relieves my stress somehow. I'm lucky I have a nice supervisor.
Don any of you have any similar experiences. Are you one of those who breaks the rules every time while you're at work or in school? Please do share your experiences
Happy MyLotting and Merry Christmas everybody!

In today's economy many people are just glad to have a job of any kind. There are so many people out of work in all professions so employers don't have to put up with people who break the rules. There will always be someone to replace you.
What would you do if you lost this job? Do you think you could find another one right away? Do you need the money you are making from this job? Could you survive without a job?
If you are young you might want to think what your resume will look like when you get older. If you have to jump from job to job it will not look good. My son-in-law had almost run out of places that would hire him because he would break the rules he didn't agree with. He only has the job he has now because a family member asked the company to give him a chance.

I'm quire sure I'm not gonna lose the job. Why? Because my I know my supervisor will keep me because I am one of his best and honest workers. He's not gonna fire me for just browsing the internet. Well the worst that could happen is for him to ask me to resign. I have been working for this company for three years and I'm actually planning to stop and deal with work at home jobs. I just haven't decided yet. As far as getting a new job. I'm pretty confident that I'll get another one. I don't wanna sound like I'm boasting or anything but a lot of call centers here in the Philippines are in dire need of people good in communicating with people. Thanks for the friendly reminder! I appreciate it.

@kg4bah - do you have any idea what type of job I have? If you can say yes to that question then you can tell me how irresponsible am for being one of the stubborn people at work.
I am fully aware that my supervisor will suspend me if get caught again. Well what the heck, I could use a vacation anyway!

Yeah, your supervisor may be "nice" and all of that, but you are probably not on that good list, they are still watching you. You could very well loose your job for surfing the Internet. Personally, I wouldn't appreciate someone surfing the Internet and posting stuff on forums when I was paying them.
There are many people out there that would give their heart and soul into their work and not surf the Internet. Those people do not get those jobs because people like you, who sit around surfing the Internet has them. You can grumble at me all you want, but I am sure I am not the only one who thinks this.
You could very well loose that job, don't say it couldn't happen, you are right up there to someone who breaks the rules. Yes, your day may be "stressful" but that does not give you the right to go surf the Internet. Everyday life is stressful and very tiring, but you won't find me at work surfing the Internet. I respect my supervisor and when i'm on the clock and he's paying me, I do work related things, not personal related things - point blank.

You better watch it, your supervisor may be ice, but if you catch him on a bad day, you might get suspended after all..My husband almost got suspended and I am thankful he didn't because we only have his income and it would hurt us terribly if he had gotten suspended..I hope he knows now to keep his mouth shut when around certain people..He can't trust anyone where he works and he needs to keep it to himself...

I'll be sure to watch it but I won't stop. Stubborn me. I know. My supervisor has always been nice. I know him long enough to know that. He fights for each one of us. In our team, I am the least of his troubles. Thanks for the response my friend!

True, she's quite lucky because her boss is probably in a good mood that day. Being suspended from work is quite depressing especially if that's the only source of income you're relying on. But of course, people won't get suspended if they haven't done anything bad. Employees also have the responsibility of taking care of their careers by not being negligent of their company's rules.

You are very bad, yuna15! LOL You must be a heck of a good worker in order for them to overlook your infaction twice. The force is truly with you. :) And to think that you of all people, a techie!
If it makes you feel better, I am at work right now myself but I have been given permission to surf by my boss. I work 3rd shift and it can be quite slow at times. My boss put a couch, rocking chair and television in the office. He had satellite, including international channels, installed. We have access to microwave, refrigerator, juice machine and coffee maker. My boss has tried to make it as comfortable as possible for use so we do not get bored and fall asleep at night. He even installed a door bell next to the night window just in case all fails and we drift off to sleep. My boss is so rad! All he asks in return is that we "sell the rooms".
I am so thankful that I no longer have the same restrictions you experience about surfing the net at work-boy, did I ever use to when I worked for ASI. I was afraid to break the rules at my former job. I use to see lots of employees surfing with no fear but I was sure I would be caught. We were not even suppose to have personal conversation online which was tough. If a tech or customer asked you how you were, it was a tough call determining if you should reply. I finally left under less than warm circumstances; the stress was just not worth the aggrevation. I applaud you for your defiant self-determination; you make others who do not stand up to authority so easily feel that some rules just plain silly.
I understand the why behind this hardfast rule but, due to my new boss, also see how it can be applied in a much healthier manner where it may be more beneficial to all concern and actually increase productivity. I am encouraged to work my sites and earn while on my bosses clock so I nor he misses any money-making opportunity. We all win; there are still rules but they are more simplified and more mutually beneficial. Maybe my boss should share his lessons learned with other companies regarding computers in the workplace. Man, we both have rockin' bosses!

Wow, screen shots and everything! Your company takes internet usage very seriously for some reason. I used to manage the technology division at a community college and had over 40 staff members who were responsible for the computer labs and computer enabled classrooms as well as the servers and online instruction. I didn't care if anyone surfed the web in between doing what they were supposed to do. There's down time in every office and I think it's petty to spy on employees who are otherwise productive. That being said, is it worth the cost of your job if you're caught? Instead of breaking the rules maybe a better idea would be to try working within the company to relax them a little bit.

The reason why I'm confident in doing this at work is because I usually get tensed but I definitely lessened browsing the net. Right now it's really too tempting to do it. Nope I'm not the only one. Everybody, yes everybody browses the net while at work. So if that same person does a screen shot on me again then that means he really wants me to get a 3-day vacation from work. Thanks for the response!

Hi yuna! Merry Christmas! Now stop mylotting at work! What
do they do take a picture of the screen while you're surfing
the Internet? Wow! That's cruel! But, I think you should
heed the warning my friend and stop yourself before you really
do get suspended! It won't be worth it if you lose some days
pay or your job! So please if they do have a way of finding
out that you are on the Internet, then stay off while you're
at work, Please! Have a wonderful holiday!

I'm pretty much inside the lines at school. I don't really have a class with which we use computers anymore, but when I did have a computer class I normally used the typing program while others were surfing the web after we finished our work. This way I learned to type, and now I can do it without even looking, wow, I'm doing it right now, staring at a light on the ceiling, okay now my eye hurts. I didn't know if we were allowed to browse the internet or if the typing program was mandatory. But when I finished the typing program, I browsed too. Everything was pretty much blocked though.

If your work place was really that stric, their network should be given a set up wherein browsing sites would be prohibited. Its like intentionally making them available so that the company would have reason to get rid of their employees after catching them red handed.
Good thing your supervisor was lenient that time.
Me? I use to do that during high school, when graduation was near anyway, uhmmm, started during my third year in high school in fact, got my ears pierced and even answered back to a teacher who was a member of a disciplinary committee..

They did block internet access but right now we have open access I'm not sure why but probably because of the changes that was made in the system because our system tools were slowing down a lot. So they are probably trying to fix something.

Second time? Gosh you're lucky!
I can't see the harm in someone browsing the net, even if it is for like 5 minutes. I mean, i know you're there to work, but as long as you meet your deadlines and get your work done, i really dont see an problem at all... dont you agree?

Oh the first occurrence was another supervisor who caught me in the act. Second time, it was another person who doesn't give any warnings at all! My direct supervisor is not so strict that's why he just gave me a verbal warning.
In my type work honestly, we can't browse the net while taking in calls since we can't focus. I don't browse or myLot while taking calls. Only during times when we don't have calls. Since it's almost christmas we don't get a lot calls. This month I wasn't really active here in myLot because we've been getting a lot of phone calls. Thanks for the response my friend!

hello yuna15, i am just curious do you work in a call center? i know most call center does have a system to get screen shots that is if you are being under quality. LOL. if you are, not all calls are being recorded and that means you will not be caught most of the time but u have to stop it because you don't know which calls are recorded. LOL. so be wary and thankful that you got a very nice supervisor that gives you the chance not to be suspended. at times i would also not follow the rules but i try to abide the rules most of the time. Happy mylotting!!!

I'm sorry you have to work on Christmas day. Looks like you do deserve to browse the Internet and have a bit of free time. You don't seem like those goof balls who don't work while at work. You seem to be just sitting there waiting for calls. Well, in that case, if you don't browse the net, then what are you going to do? You'd get bored and fall asleep.
Good luck and Merry Christmas.

LOL Thanks! I'll be sure to be careful. During this time of the day. The people who does the screen shots are not around. So I'm pretty safe. You'll never know, even the big bosses browsed the net! Hahaha! Seriously they do. One of the big bosses admitted that through a joke.
Thanks for the response my friend!

Since, I'm the one who make the policy and enforce the policy in my office but the policy and the enforcement is not as strict as your company have. I still do considered a staffs private area and they are still human after all.

I would stop if I were you. Around here jobs are hard to come by, and I do not know about you, but I would not want to lose a job over something so silly as being stubborn and breaking the rules. I recently have received a promotion, and one of the rules is "No cell phones" and I think I am going to be tougher than the previous boss. I understand that perhaps an overnight position is boring, and you need down time. Is there any way you could get a laptop with wireless and use it for your personal activity during down time at work? Then you would not be at risk for getting suspended and you would not be surfing on the company computer.

Uh-oh! I'm sorry you got caught. I can't see why they wouldn't at least get your e-mail when you are on a break. The last job I worked at, there was a woman in the office who I thought would eventually get fired. We both knew our supervisers had access to any e-mail we exchanged, and they could see any sites we visited. She would send me e-mails full of gossip, and a lot of it was about our boss! I kept telling her that one day she would get caught, but she didn't seem to care.

Now I had started a company. But, when I was working for other companies, I use to get attention of our higher category officials, so that they can keep me with themselves, so I can use their laptops or desktops or browse int he internet etc. So, I had not caught in doing such activities......
