Managing layoffs

Nowadays lot of news are there about layoffs in industry. How people manage such situations? Share your thoughts.

I was laid off last month and, while I have looked for another job, nothing is turning up that is closer than a two hour drive which I refuse to do so I may be going back to college to finish my degrees in January. I'll find out when the college reopens on Jan 5th. In the meantime, I am collecting unemployment benefits and cutting back where I can.
