A Christmas Present from the Sky

We dashed out to do some last-minute grocery shopping before the holidays set in, and this photo I took of the sky was fun. We do not get a lot of clouds here, and this formation, which we call a "herring bone sky" is quite unusual for the desert area where we live.
I jumped out of the car and started taking pictures fast, before it went away.
Usually when this sort of thing happens I don't have the camera with me, but lately I've been better about carrying it different places.
What about you? Do you often see a picture you would like to take but then realize you left your camera at home? Do you get many clouds in your skies? What do you call this kind of clouds?
Do you have any cloud stories?

That was awesome, drannhh! I am glad that you didn't forget the camera! It just takes moments to make our lives and this being one such. Lovely flying clouds there!
I have always regretted not to take the camera with me. I think, carrying a camera is a good thing. Especially when we are living on an era of networking and internet. Sharing makes the joy manifold and we get to reach out to many at one go. I just love all your green finger shots...keep sharing.
PS: I must make it a habit to carry my cam everywhere.

These past few days... we only get dark clouds... not like in the past where we see a variety everydya... and i have seen that "herring bone sky" several times... but never did bother to take a photo... maybe because it is not that unusual for me...
But lately... i have been going to places where the landscapes and mountain views are beautiful... but have not taken any pictures yet... but this week for sure i will...

I am eager to see your landscape and mountain photos! Maybe lately myLot notifications have not been coming to my inbox, as yesterday there was only one and usually there would be 20 or 30 at the very least. Well, I can catch up on other things, or do some work...or go to your profile and look to see if you posted something ;-)

I barely take my camera anywhere. I just don't think about it. We do have alot of clouds here. We love to sit outside and try to make a picture out of them.

Oh I love it when clouds gather in the sky makeing unusual shapes that you probably think of it as if some one has drawn but in this case his table is the sky.
I hope that you are enjoying those clouds as much as you miss them in your area, as you have mentioned before that you do not get it that often.

Not having a camera when you want to a pic a very common. This has happened lot of times to me. The photo was great. I have seen lot of clouds similar to this, but this is definetly a herring bone clouds.Clouds are very common at my place. Once it looked like a sleeping baby.Unfortunately, I do not have those pictures.

I don't have my camera with me the last two weeks or so. My brother brought it with him on his vacation. But yes, there have been so many instances when I wished I had my trusty camera. But I do have my phone camera and I try to snap pictures from it but the quality is not as good so I just tell myself just as long as I have something to remember it by.
Please refer to my comment on your picture to read what I think about these clouds. You can psychoanalyze me and my comment if you want.
Right now, we have gloomy skies. The other day, the sky looked like two factions fighting each other, like good versus evil, blue skies versus dark and intimidating clouds.

Thank you for your remarks. I guess you see a lot of tourists where you live, since your home is well known around the world for its beauty and mild climate. My home is in the place that has the highest recorded temperature for the United States, so we never get snow either. We do not have much natural green, but where people irrigate there are trees and grass...and flowers.

That is a pretty sweet picture. The sky and the moon tonight has looked pretty fabulous. I sadly do not have any cloud stories. Any interesting ones at least. But our sky in West Virginia is always beautiful. Plus, the combination of the mountains and the rivers in the area makes the sky look even more beautiful.
