Why should we thank God?

I often hear people telling me that I should thank God for all that he has given me.
But I refuse to thank God because once he created me, then it is his responsibility to provide me with all that I need and wish for. It is his duty. And I don't feel that I should thank him for his having done his duty. Afer all, he has not done any favour; he has only done his duty.

My mom sent me to college and provided me with everything I ever needed when I was growing up. I still thank her for that even if it was her duty to do so.
If gratitude is due to people who have provided you with all that you need, so it is with God. Gratitude is also a sign that you actually learned manners and social graces in dealing with your fellow men and with God.
Merry Christmas, and thanks be to God.
