The description of your problem is very general and is quite hard to know what's is wrong.
For example, at what stage your system seems like hangs ?
In most case, when system hangs,.. it hangs without recovery. You need to do a force reset to it. However in your case, it seems like your computer has not hang up but is running some processes. Therefore everything seems to be slow or not moving.
Therefore if you can elaborate further on your condition, it will be much easier to troubleshoot. further to it, you have not mention what OS u r using.
If system slow down when windows is booting up, then most probably is due to some software problem. Either a corrupted file or missing file. To know what went wrong at this state, call out Task Manager and see what files ie being execute with high resources rate. That might give u an idea where wend wrong.
Do share somemore info about your problem and I'll see what can I help

It's not hang then. "Hang" means you can't do anything other than reboot it. I think it only take a lot of time for your computer to load everything so it can work.
Take a look at the list by person above me (first respond!).
I think you might be installing too much unnecessary software that run at startup, or maybe you need to fix or change your bootstrap so it can load faster. From hardware side, there's a possibilities that you have memory vaulty or your hard disk mechanic probably is not as good as it should be anymore. Or, there's a possibilities that your computer contains virus, trojan, or worm that cause your computer to do extra job at startup.
Wait.. What Operating System did you use?

There could be lots and lots of causes.
1. too many programs on your start-up menu causing the pc to pause/freeze as it starts all the programs
2. the usual suspects, viruses, spyware, malware.
3. memory errors caused by faulty ram cards
4. conflicting drivers
5. missing drivers
6. corrupted drivers
7. etc., etc., etc.,
