Did you get a new friend request this morning?

When I woke up this morning and logged on to mylot to see what kind of response my activity last night generated I noticed that I had a new friend request. So I checked it out to see who wanted to be my friend. It was someone I had not come across so far in any discussion but that happens. Sometimes the person has seen my discussions and responded but I haven't been notified yet.
But wait, this person has a (0) under her name. So I go look at her profile. She has been on mylot for 6 days and has started no discussions nor responded to any. So far she has only 2 friends.
Two questions come to mind. Does she think that she can earn just by collecting friends? And how did she come to pick me to request?
What do you do when you get requests like that?

I haven’t received any such request since morning however I understand the point you are making .You may be wondering if this person is genuinely seeking a friend or just collecting friend on a wrong premise. The person could just be testing out all the bells and whistles of the site or could genuinely be seeking a friend to communicate with and get a better understanding of what is happening on the site. This could also be her way of trying to feel apart of the mylot community .I would accept her request but the I have never turned away a prospective friend.

I have never denied a friend request although a couple of times I waited awhile before approving them. I am still new enough that I feel intimidated by some of the ones who have obviously been here awhile. Some very kind souls requested me as a friend when I first signed up and gave me some pointers. So now I try to do the same. I also like being friends with the veterans because they can come up with the most interesting discussions. I guess it takes practice.

You are definitely in the right place for that. This is truly a world wide organization. You can earn money here but it is a small amount and will by no means compare to the amount of experience you will gain by participating in discussions.
Unfortunately sometimes when we get a friend request from someone new, especially if the person has not had any activity and we can't figure out how we were chosen for the request we are a little cautious. There is good reason to be cautious of some people we meet on the internet because some of them are looking for ways to cheat or do harm. There are a lot of good people on mylot and we tend to look out for each other and broadcast things that seem strange.
Reading the discussions of others, while good, is not the only thing that will broaden your horizons. You need to participate as well. Your thoughts are just as valuable as anyone's so just jump in. Before you start though you should be sure you've read the rules because this will help you avoid doing things that will cause you trouble and help you be a productive member of this community. In case you missed them I have included the links here.

I don't accept friend requests unless I think the person is interesting or I have something in common with them. I don't have anything against new people, but I'm not going to accept a request from someone who hasn't bothered to participate on the site at all. You may be right. Maybe she thinks you earn according to the number of friends you have. Well, either she will learn what it's all about or she will leave. I think most of those requests are random. Or they pick someone who has enough of a rating that they look like a good person to be friends with, or they liked something you said in a discussion.

I agree with you on that. I've let her request sit there all day and so far there has not been any activity on her part.
I actually felt privileged when you accepted my friend request because you had mentioned in several discussions that you chose your friends carefully. I haven't been quite that careful in the past few weeks but I am seeing more and more that I need to follow your example.

I sometimes wonder how people "find" me too and ask for a friend request especially when they have little or no points. Like Huh? I always check profiles as well...to see if maybe they had responded to one of my discussions, or at least if they have started interesting discussions, but when I see nothing, no indication of having replied to one of my discussions I wonder just why they do ask me...so often I'll just deny them

A couple of weeks ago I had one with no activity request friendship with me. I approved her then sent her a PM telling her tht I hoped that she wasn't just there to collect friends and that I hoped to see her comments in some discussions. She eventually PM'd me back and said she was just haing trouble knowing where to start. She eventually made three comments then got stuck there. Oh well at least she tried.

Welcome to mylot. You will find this an enjoyable place to spend some time. It can be real informative too. It's good to see you are active. Don't forget to turn your notifiers on when you make a new friend so you will be notified when they start discussions. That way you can respond to them.
