How's your temper?

Do you get really annoyed when you post an obviously humorous discussion, say, for instance, My Dog Tried To Kill Me, and three quarters of the respondees try, in all seriousness, to explain to you that he didn't really, it was an accident? Of course it was a bloody accident, there are "lols" throughout the post.
I know I should be tolerant, but honest to Betsy (lol), concrete-minded people just irritate the hell out of me, and I can't resist making sarcastic "Duh" type responses to them.
When will I grow up and become a normal member of the human race?
What do you do when you come across this? And James, I already know that your wonderfully diplomatic soul would handle it far better than I do lol.

Despair, my friend. Almost all my discussions are a clumsy attempt at humour. About 10 people get them, the others either write something completely unintelligible, or give me advice. However, I am grateful for small mercies. At least they do come along even if it is only to misunderstand.

Oh dear I think I may be one of those culprits. I am terribly guilty of taking people seriously. I am one of those partially concrete minded people who do not always see the joke and get really embarrassed when told it is a joke and blush and say ok. Whoops.
But I don't care if I get it wrong. If someone points out my error I go whoops and do a post that responds to the joke. I am only partly concrete cause I do get some of them.

I am one of the people who responded to that discussion and I responded the way I did even though I could see the humour, i responded in the way i did simply because in the past I have answered a similar discussion with humour and was told it wasn't meant to be funny so i tread lightly these days, I think this is where i think the smileys come into good use, as on here we can't see facial expressions ot bosy language of people, we can and have upset people and I simply don't wish to do that....sorry if I helped rais your temper...

I'm just a grumpy old man. I must admit too, the "old" bit is probably why I find the emoticons a bit silly, so I don't use them. The "lol" is as far as I can bring myself to go. As for my sense of humour - and this discussion is another example - it tends to be very ironic at times, and a lot of people miss it. I may perhaps have to look at emoticons from a different perspective.
Going back and reading your response to that thread explained to me the somewhat puzzling "rat" in the keywords lol. I must have missed that the first time through, or rather it didn't register.
I hope you gave your dog a special treat.

Oh yes my little dog was my hero...I know how things can be taken the wrong way in here, I used to belong to a local forum and there was always upsets because of misunderstandings and when i came to Mylot I thought i would play it a lot cooler and avoid all conflicts, and it is easier to get yourself into trouble here as surprisingly enough humour is different in different cultures so i like to play it safe in here and keep out of trouble...

I get annoyed at a lot of things but that does irritate me a little. It can also make me laugh especially when I post something really silly as a joke and people take it seriously. Oh that is so funny.
Then I try to answer them and get so frustrated that I end up saying, it was a joke. It does not happen to me often cause I cannot tell jokes and I am not very good at saying humorous things.
In fact I am so bad at being funny that most people take me serious. Maybe it is because I am partly concrete minded. Well I am told I am anyway. *giggle* I don't want to be like this I just seem to have no control over it at all.

I hate to tell you this, Lash, but you're too old to grow and become a normal person so you might as well accept being ABnormal like a good portion of us who post here. And, face it, some folks are dense...in person and on the internet. At least the dense ones you meet in person can sorta read your face when you're joking...maybe...sometimes....

If I were a stand-up comic (shudder) I wouldn't last one gig - I deliver stony-faced, unless you can really see my eyes lol.

Ehhh, I am pretty even tempered when it comes to this place, or any other social network, for that matter.
I get goofy, I get silly, and I get down right stupid with my conversations sometimes.(Most of the time, actually.) So, I just try to take into consideration that the person responding may not actually understand the language, and the irony, or humor. Sometimes I will respond with an explanation, which kind of takes the fun out of it. Sometimes, I may actually respond with DUH, or the eye roll emoticon. More often than not, I simply reply with HUH? I know that they are not likely to come back to the discussion to respond, so it doesn't really matter.
As for growing up and becoming normal, my question is WHY?*LOL*

Yeah, I was more serious when I was in my teens and early adulthood. I decided that it really wasn't necessary for me to be that way ALL the time, only a tiny part of it.*L*

My temper is pretty good when it's just a friend that is messing with me. If your a complete stranger that is bugging me in public, I'll flip out. My temper is kind of like a ticking time bomb. I won't go off at the time but if you keep bugging me and bugging me, I'll explode and in the worst way.

In the context of this discussion I can hardly let this pass without a comment. It appears that you haven't read beyond the topic line. Perhaps I'm wrong, but your response doesn't have the slightest thing to do with the topic. Oh, sorry, we both mention the word temper. Well done!

I realize you're having a bit of a break from here Lash, but how the heck did I miss this one???? I even got a mention, yet I didn't see this discussion at all! Yeah, I guess I AM diplomatic a lot of the time on here, but what is weird is that it's the complete opposite of what I am like on a day to day basis! I referred a work colleague to this site some months back and after he had read through some of my interactions he just looked at me in horror! I am pretty sure that WTF??? was uttered at least once! lol. Maybe I'm using mylot as a repentance platform?? lol. Anyways, I think a little sarcasm towards people that miss the point is perfectly acceptable and very amusing! lol. And we CAN do it without being a total d!ckhead right?
By the way, my own sense of humour has been absolutely wasted in the real world for the last few years as I've been in non-English speaking countries.99% of my jokes fly completely over other people's heads! It frustrates the crap out of me to be honest. I hope you're enjoying your gardening and stuff and please take good care of the panda's. All the best mate, you are sorely missed.

Hahahahahaha. I was laying in bed last night and for some reason I thought back to this discussion..... It was then that I realized that in my own response I had crapped on and on with 80% of my post mostly related to the last line of your discussion topic! Oh I BET you miss THAT side of me Lash! Oh well. Cya again soon one day I hope!

I really feel funny but i usually reply what i think is the right word to say to them as i don't know whether they are grown ups or kids. Many posts will be like the one you mentioned "my dog tried to kill me" this type are kinda funny when a kids refers but when it comes to grown up its, something that we need to think like, did the dog really tried to kill him?. Anyway i don't irritate people and i don't enjoy irritating people but there are some who will reply in a sarcastic manner and i guess it suits in a way.

I don;t have much of a temper. It takes a whole lot to make me really mad. I tend to just let things go until someone pushes me into a corner and then I would fight back and show my anger.

I'm surprised when I get responses, so I take them as they come. There was one time though, when I got a hoity toity response. Sorry, I don't remember the discussion. All I could think was "oh brother!" I don't believe I responded to that response because there was nothing to say.

Hello
Same thing happend to me quite a few times...But couldn't irritate me just because I accept the fact that not all people will be able to carry over my vibrations of mind. So I just give a good laugh at all those responses & let it go.I just focus on the responses that are appealing to my idea of framing the discussion. Why hurt anybody who is responding to u??

Because I'm a grumpy old man. And I'm being very good, because at least three people have answered this discussion clearly without ever reading past the topic line, which is another thing that annoys the sh1t out of me, and I've only had a little half-hearted nip at one of them lol.
It depends on what time of day I read the offending posts, too. Late at night I'm a bit volatile, pain and tiredness.
Thanks for you response.

I've noticed that a lot since I've been on this site. People post responses to my topics, and the responses show that they've taken it out of context. I try not to let it bother me because it's just the internet, but it's still kind of annoying.

I am that cliché, when you make a nice person angry, they really get angry. I am a pretty nice person, but if you make me mad, better be careful that all Hell does not break loose.

Grandpa Lash there will be persons who will see the humor but still post a serious response. Well such is life. I would encourage you not to be a grinch but instead try and see it from their point of view.

I have often been in the same situation. Sometimes I write something and I think that it is so obvious that I'm not serious, but I still get a serious response. I get very surpriced when that happens, but not annoyed. I read the other discussion (My dog tried to kill me) and I must admit that some of the serious responses made me smile. I found it funny that people didn't see the humour in it, because it was obvious to me that it wasn't supposed to be be taken seriously or literally.

I used to be uptight all the time but now, I would say I've gained some patience....maybe just a bit....but hopefully a lot..
anyway, I don't really mind getting responses from people who don't get it and I do make sarcastic responses which are not insulting...I hope...

Hey, I guess I was very hot temperered when i was like in my early teens. I don't. Most probably I followed my mum's trait. She was a real tigress. But as I grow older, I stick closer to my dad and he was a very cool guy. The incident will almost killed me also really changed by attitude. I'm no more hot tempered nowadays except a few occassions.
