It's no doubt that 'Air man' Jorden was once the most succesfull basketman in the earth. His tallent, courage, leadship, and the ability to 'fly' made him so amazing. He is a legend, maybe, once thought to be the only legend in the history of basketball. But things seems to be changed since the befalling of Kobe. People says that, yes, Jorden is great, but can he get 60 points just three quarters? can he get more than 5o points in for play continuously?---can he get 81 points in only one play? May be not, but Kobe have done this. Fans of Jorden have lots of reasons to beat back these questions. One important issue is the basketball game is not a personal game but a team work, a great basketballman is not only a great shooter but also a man who can make people surround him become stronger, only do this can him lead his team to the champion, that why Jorden gets six rings but only three got by Kobe, furthermore, which is under the huge help from O'Neal. So, what your opinin? or even you have other person for the socall 'greatest basketmann'?

Michael Jordan is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

Well, my reason is basically nostalgia. I loved basketball most, and watched it most, while Jordan was with the Bulls and they got the three-peat. It is almost impossible to compare players of different eras, since there are different challenges, team dynamics, styles of play, etc. But I certainly think Jordan is more iconic than any player of late. There are people here who don't care about basketball, and have, believe it or not, never heard of Kobe and others like him. But when Jordan was playing, everyone knew the name. So while there may have been or may soon be (although definitely not when he was playing) a better basketball player, he will always have that distinction in my mind.

you can't really decide who the best player is because they all played in different eras, they also played with different styles and by the way it is spelled jordAn not jorden

There are few players who didn't play in Jordan's era who are in top50! If you just remember all the player who played at the same time when Jordan played than I think you gonna agree with me. And I am not saying that Bird, McHale, Jabber, Chamberlain, Havlichek etc. weren't good players. I am saying that you can't compare anybody to MJ! Not one single player.

Definitely MJ. No doubt! He won 3 championships in a row, TWICE! He is the only player who had triple-double at the All-Star game. He is still number 1 in average point per game. I can go all day with statistics! But the point is - he was a true leader. Kobe maybe can score more than MJ, or LeBron can have more points at the end of his career but nobody will have that charisma which Mr. Air had! There wasn't a player on the court who wasn't scared guarding MJ. JORDAN MADE NIKE FAMOUS! HE WAS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL (BASKETBALL) PLAYER EVER!!!

Well if its up to stats Bill Russell or Kareem both would be in the top few. Kareem is third in blocks third in rebounds and first in points not to mention alot of other great stats. And bill russell won 11 championships in his 13 year career and 12 all star games. But for as much as great all around player i would go for Michael Jordan.
