2001 is an old classical science fiction movie. I have its LD version at home. Frankly, I don't understand it at all. I personally think this movie is boring. I don't understand why this movie is regarded as a typical science fiction movie. What do you think?

I haven't heard of this movie before. But I am like watching science fiction movie since long time ago. But unfortunately, not many of them are good. The science fiction that I like is The Matrix series. But I think "2001" should be an old film right? It should be made when the 21st century was still remain mystery to us. Now we are already in the 8th year of this new century . I will let you know after I have watched this movie!

No wonder I haven't heard of it. I seldom watch old movies. I don't even have time to watch all the new movies, so it's less likely for me to have chance to watch the old one. Unless some very epic must-watch old movies. What you said is right, technology and shooting method in the past looks funny today, especially those in black and white colour. But I found that there are some films which is still amusing until today. One example is the movie by our late local stars P.Ramlee.

2001 is a very old movie. Perhaps at that time it was great, but today we may think it's silly

2001 Space Odyssey, produced in 1968, is the father of all outer space movies including the very famous "Star War". It does not have a lot of dialogues throughout the movie. It started with the theme "The Dawn of Man". A mysterious black monolith (rectangular block) appeared on earth and it improved the intelligence of a tribe of primates (ape man)... they started to use bone as weapon to fight off the enemy... I think I talk too much and it will spoil the movie for those who haven't watch it. Frankly speaking, I use 3 times to finish the movie since it is a very long movie (around 2:30 hours) and I fell asleep 3 times while watching the movie...:P

Hi youless! haha..I do find it quite boring but my husband disagree with me. He likes it and has an original poster of it that he treasures along with his other old movie posters that he collects. The movie has received mixed reviews but I do agree that it has its own merits that is why it was recognized as one of the top ten classic films nowadays. Although I got a little bored watching it. I guess, I am not into that kind of films. It is nice catching you here and hope you will have a happy and blessed New Year my dear friend. lovelots..faith210

It was good for it's day, back then special effects weren't as high tech and spectacular as they are today, but then the storyline needs to be meaty, enjoyable and have you at the edge of your seat, well for me it didn't, it was just too slow and yes you are right boring, then Star Wars comes along and wow, 2001 fades in comparison, I think I've only watched 2001 once, it is really dated now, but I suspect films of today will be dated in thirty or so years time etc. I love science fiction but 2001 just didn't do it for me. I don't think if it was re-released today with added special affects and a revamp it still probably wouldn't interest me but then it would have to be renamed, 3001! They could always make a new one 3001 LOL! As 2001 is now in the past, not in the future.

I guess you have to watch it a few time before you can actually understand it. I too still have not really learned to appreciate the movie. In fact, I watched it like over 15 times, and I still have yet to complete the movie. That was when it was on VHS tapes. Now my player is gone and I still have yet to complete the movie!

Do you mean the 2001 A space odyssey? If it is so aside from its visual greatness, the reason the film spawns so much discussion and analysis is because so many people have so many different interpretations of it. Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, his co-writer, had a vision, but we have never really found out what was going through their minds.2001 is primarily a technical film. The reason it is slow, and filled with minutae is because the aim was to realistically envision the future of technology. The film's greatest strength is in the details.

I saw it years ago, and I didn't understand it much either. It didn't make a lick of sense to me. What yeear was it made again? It's interesting when people put years and supposed dates to things like Orwell's 1984, and the movie 2001. Both those years have come and gone without the events talked about in the movies. Perhaps way down the road, but not now.

I think that is the beauty of the movie. You would never understood it no matter how many times you watched it. You will somehow watch it over and over again... It is the best science fiction movie ever made.

I beg to differ, Star Wars for me is the best science fiction movie ever made. Event Horizon was also a wonderful scifi film but 2001, no didn't do anything for me. Happy Holiday!
