I've not seen a really good horror movie in a very long time!
Ju-On (The Grudge) is pretty good, but the Japanese seem to know how to make something that messes with your mind, which is always good.
Aside from the Japanese, I remember the first time I saw A Nightmare On Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original, not the awful remake), Halloween, Driller Killer, I Spit On Your Grave...nothing really compares to that kinda thing anymore, but perhaps that is because these days most people are "desensitized" to violence.

My favorite horror movie is "The Ring". Its the scariest movie I have seen so far. If you watch this movie at home in a DVD you may not find it that frightening. The impact is 1000 times more when you watch the same movie in a theater. I have watched "The Ring" a lot of times, but when I watched it for the first time in the theater, I literally kept my eyes closed every two minutes for the entire second half of the movie. "The Ring II" is equally good, but I watched the movie at home so didn't find it that scary at that point

I used to enjoy the Nightmare on Elm Street & Friday the 13th series; however I later found that the Asian horror shows are even scarier! I've seen the Japanese and Korean horror movies like The Ring, Dark Water, The Grudge and others - very creepy! I can't rate any as favorite; I seem to like most of them.

Everyone talks about how scary the Ring and The Grudge were and how the original Japanese versions are scarier still. I haven't been able to get anything out of the Asian horror phenomenon...the originals or the remakes. The Eye with Jessica Alba was good but that's about it.
My favorites are the older ones. Halloween 1 & 2 were terrific. Carrie, Firestarter, Rosemary's Baby, Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. I also really liked the original Saw and 2 wasn't bad but the rest of them are just blood and gore for the sake of blood and gore. The plots have been the same thing over and over.
I am on a constant quest to find a horror movie that makes me have to sleep with the lights on. I haven't found it yet.
