Hi there KUSHANK55
I love my mum a lot and try to do my best to show her how my I love and appreciate her. When she comes to visit I don't allow her to lift a finger to cook, clean or anything. I want her to totally relax because she still works and works hard at her jobs. I buy her little gifts through out the year just to put a smile on her face and to let her know that I often think about her. She loves it because it always comes through the post to her unexpectedly. She will be 60 in March and I am trying to put something really special together for her!

hi kushank55, my dear friend, i think we all do love our parentsand showing our love is just one thing which may vary from person to person. i love my parents a lot and i love to gift them things , like clothings, deos, perfumes, a holiday out sometime which i also enjoy at times when i too can plan with it, dinner, or lunch. i love to give them surprises and i love to hsare some time with with without fail. after marriage , now i am not living with them. but tomorrow its my birthday and they all will be visiting me . we'll be having a blast together. in new year times , we generally order food from outside or make something very special and a sweet dish ofcourse. i love to sit with them and watch that idiot box, i mean tv, lol, on that day atleast if not on any other.

I'm not a showy type of person and say i love you to my parents, but just nearly with my presence i know that they know that i love them even though i never say those 3 words right in front of them. Action speaks louder than words.

If you truly love your parents take care of them in their old age without sending them to Old Age Homes, in line with the real Indian Culture. I say this because your name looks Indian-like. If you are not, then please excuse me.
The next thing in kipping with the Indian family values is to give them respect; differ with them in your ideas if you must, but you could state your viewpoint without treating them like dust.
I don't think Christmas or for that matter Diwali presents, etc., do not matter. If they are also Indian in their outlook they would have outgrown external show of love. The present generation does not seem to understand the meaning of veneration. At least we can be prepared for a future of materialist disregard, for traditional values. But one must really take pity on the generation that respected and loved their parents to get their due.

yes dear friend you are absolutely right!!
there are reasons more than just love that ultimately determines the fate of old parents these days!!
i have come across cases where the parents lose respect and are on the street just for the lust of money by the younger generation!!

Hello my friend. I think that respect plays an important role in treating your parents. I also believe that small things, like helping around the house (for those of us that still live there) is also important especially if we do occasional choirs that we don't normally do. I think that once we get a salary, if we still are living in our parents house we should contribute a little with money or with buying some base aliments (like bread, flower oil, sugar etc), even if it is a small amount- because it's the thought that matters.
Regarding the holidays (especially Christmas) i think parents should also receive presents as they too are kids inside as all of us, even if they have to be adults on a daily basis.
