Share some advice for a blogging newbie

I know I'm way behind when it comes to the blogging experience, but I have decided I want to start a blog by the beginning of new year. However, as I start researching the process on how to do so, there are so many information out there that after a while it gets confusing.
I'd like some advice from mylotters who are serious bloggers, and who in the course of time, actually made money through their blogs. I also need advice on which platform to use, one that is user friendly to a newbie but is capable to grow with me once I get better at it.
Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated.

yeah first off u shud make a blog at a website like blogger.com or wordpress.com and then u cshud shud start posting!

I am also learning how to make a compelling blog post. I have, somehow, managed few regular visitors though. But a recently read article led me to a website, http://www.problogger.net, which covers different aspect of blogging. Topics are well written and informative. I think you may study that website for the remaining few days before stepping into blogosphere.
