Do you use free sites or used sites?

I am a member of Winnipeg Free Cycle in the yahoo groups. I am wondering if anyone else uses sites like these? We have about 5 sites for Canada that I find very good for stuff found locally.
We have recently got a newer couch and table for Christmas, so I will be able to post these items on a free cycle for others to come and pick up for free. I have used this site for a few things like pieces of carpet for cat posts, and for the dogs in the basement. We have also got a older couch that we use in the garage. Everyday I have a separate email account for it but it emails me with everyone's new items.
I think sites like this are good. It gives people a chance to have a few things that they might not be able to afford. I know it has helped us and a few friends of ours in the past.
Now that it is Christmas I see a lot of post offering newer things like ipods and cell phones because they have upgraded. Well its nice to see that others are offering not only junk on these sites but really nice things.
Do you or anyone you know use these sites? Do you find them helpful to you or others? Have you ever picked things up off the net before? What have you picked up? What have you offered?

I actually belong to three chapters of freecycle. Technically I think that is a violation but I am not active in all of them. The first one I joined was where I used to live. I was pretty active there until I moved to far away. I don't participate in that group anymore because of my location but I still get their emails.
When I moved up here I immediately signed up for the local chapter. After several months I had only received two emails from members. After checking I discovered there were only about ten members in this chapter.
Since I live close to a metropolitan area I decided to see if I could join their group. They accepted me and I have been participating there. I still kept the membership in the small group hoping it would grow.
