Well I don't have a fancy house either. Actually, I have a double-wide mobile home on a pretty nice half-acre lot in a good location not far from Pensacola, Florida. We got this place a little over two years ago. My wife and I both drive pretty decent cars that we are making payments on. We also have some credit card debt. We are still not in a bad place financially when you look at the big picture though. We could pay off all our debts completely right now for about $113,000, so I guess I really can't complain. Our real problem right now is that I am not making as much money now due to a job change. I am looking for a second job right now, but I am not having any luck at all. Once I find more work, things will be OK though. Winning the lottery would sure be nice, but I don't waste what little money I have trying to buy lottery tickets. To me, using even those few extra dollars to pay down some debt is a much better investment of my few dollars...

Only a million? That changes the answer a bit. Like the Lotto here is up to 25 million, I think, which would buy a lot more things.
If the jackpot were only a million, I'd probably pay off my student loans, buy a MINI Cooper, buy an apartment in Austin, TX and put the rest in a high yield savings account. If it were one of the big jackpots, 25 million or whatever, I'd buy all those things plus a new car for my mom, maybe have some cosmetic surgery to fix some little things I'm unhappy with (like...I lifted weights in high school and now I have "lady wrestler" arms), open my bookstore THEN put the rest into savings.

I would do my duty to God and country first. Afterward, I'd pay off my debt and the debts of my family. If there was anything left after that, I'd remodel our house as long as it didn't use up all the money. I'd want to be sure to put some back in case of an emergency and to invest some.

I would buy an appartment, not a fancy one but something nice my boyfriend and me can live in together. We have been together for 5 years now and we want to get our own appartment, and a million dollars would give us instant access to a nice appartment. There would still be a huge lot left which I would keep in the bank, perhaps buy some nice furniture and the rest would be savings.

If I won a million then the first thing I would do would be to pay off debt. If I did not have to pay tax on it I would then put the rest in the bank as I will need the interest it generates as income since I would lose the pension.
I might use some to buy a new car, one that does not need petrol. I would definitely use some to fix up my house. I would convert to solar energy and install a huge water tank so that I would not be dependent on town water. I would like to make my property as independent and environmentally friendly as I can. Not sure how much that would cost but not too much.

For me, instead of wasting all that money on buying things that I wouldn't sell off, the first thing I'd do is make the business I've always wanted, and profit from that. Any leftovers will be dedicated to my university schooling and savings. After getting all of that steady and secure, helping others comes next; since doing that from the beginning is rather pointless. I mean, look at it this way, would people benefit more from using and drinking the water from a pond that would dry out the more it is used, or would they benefit better from drinking and using the water of a river that would never stop flowing?

ell the first thing i would do if i won would be to pay off all my bills and become debt free. then i would money to my mom so she didn't have to work so hard. then i would by a home for myself, because i am 48 and have never had my own home. sad, isn't it.lol

Well this is question I have asked myself lots of times!! I think the very first thing I would get would be a holiday booking! Somewhere that I can't afford to go at the moment with a very very very luxurious hotel to go with it! And I would take every single person in my life that is important to me with me too! When I get backk from the amazing holiday, I think I would next get a new fabulous car and then buy a new cool place to live....oh if only!

When my luck has it and I win a decent size lottery of a million or more, the first thing I would buy would likely be property back home and then I would put a house on it. I would invest the rest.

I'd probably buy a new house in a quieter location than Miami is these days, but most of it would go to helping others. I'm not polishing up a halo; that's just what I've always wished I could do and, no matter how broke I might be, at least something has to go to helping others. I've been thrilled to find ways to help that don't cost me anything, so I could do that even when there's no money at all, like now!

I've thought about this way too often but in my dreams when I win, I win the mega millions lottery. The first thing that I would do is buy a small beach cottage in Laguna Beach, Ca. I love it there. Then I would put aside enough money to ensure that DH and I were financially secure for the rest of our lives. With the remainder, I would set up a foundation to help people. Rather than give the money to charity, I would prefer to give the money to individuals so that I could make a difference in their lives. Now all I need to do is to start buying lottery tickets! LOL.

If I won a million dollar lottery the first thing I would probably buy would probably be either a new house or a new car. It would be awesome to win the lottery especially now when the economy is crap. I would also like to buy myself a bunch of new music equipment and then probably buy my mom, my friends, and my girlfriend a bunch of stuff because I believe in spreading the wealth.
