I know this question has been asked before but I checked how long ago people answered the question and both were over a year old. I'd like to get the opinion of NEW mylotters and people who haven't expressed their opinion on this yet.
I think it's a tie between airplanes and computers.
Airplanes: Think about it. They make traveling and business so much easier and faster. Also think about how does a 10 ton machine fly?! It's amazing that we have gotten this far with technology. Seriously, if you have never experienced flight make sure you do. You will go crazy if you stand next to a Boeing 747 airplane and think that the thing can fly. It's crazy to think about it.
Computers: Self explanatory. It has connected everyone in the world and is the biggest information holder... ever!
What do you think is the greatest invention ever?

I think it's software invention . for each and every work we need different kind of softwares . eg if we are working on mechanical field we need mechanical related softwares like Catia, Nastran etc. Ofcourse we need need the basic idea about some thing before going to invent it. but i think we can go ahead for every invention with the help of software and computer. Here computer is playing a major roll for every innovation. Its the basic requirement for everything . So now i can say the best invention is software and computer.

I have no idea what the best invention is, I thought about it really hard, but I cant come up with something thats a cut above everything else. It does remind me of something rich hall said though "people say that the best invention was the wheel, I think it was the second wheel, cos have you ever seen a guy on a unicycle, what an a**hole!" If I think of anything I'll get back to you :)

Hi TrayBlaylock.
You have asked a very difficult question.
If you think deep, each an every invention is a boon to to the human beings.
If I have to give one answer, I will consider electricity as my first answer to your question.
Now Can you think of a world without electricity?.For each and every work we depend on electricity.
Can your planes and computers work without electricity?
There are billions and billions of people who don't use planes or computers. But is there anyone now without using electricity?
Happy mylotting

For me it depends. Am I just talking for myself? Or am I talking about society as a whole. If I am talking about myself, there are three possibilities. One is the Isolet which I slept on when I was a baby in the hospital and couldn't breathe on my own right. The second is the epinephrine pen which I use when I am around too many plastics to prevent myself from dying. And the third is the electrical chair which allows me to move around on my own, even though I have a disability. If we are talking about society, I think the best invention is the internet. It allows people to communicate over long distances without paying extra as long as they have a computer. It allows community organizing to happen and news to get out more quickly. It reconnects people who haven't seen each other in years and have no other way to find each other. For myself, I have located six long lost friends in the two months that I have had facebook.

Wheels are the best invention according to me.People travel more on wheels for centuaries and thus they learn more places and communicate world wide.Without wheels man will be stagnant still confined to a small circle.I think wheels are the basics for what you quote too.An airplane should have wheels to take off and to land .The mouse in a computer has also a scrolling wheel.LOL!Cheers!

To me, writing and the different alphabets are the greatest inventions of all time. Transmission of knowledge and all other inventions have been made possible because of writing and the alphabets.

Writing of course. Without a way of recording things for future generation to build on, nothing else would have been possible.

The printing press. Before it was invented books were hand copied, making them very very expensive. The printing press brought them down in price, still expensive but attainable. The size and text also became more standardized. That happens with machinery and can't be done as well by human hand.

Language has to be the best invention ever. Now, if we could polish it up so we could all understand one another, wouldn't that solve all sorts of problems?

I guess it depends on what you consider any an invention. I think the best invention ever was books. Books havbe helped to spread knowledge to people who could not afford education, during times and in countries where education is not free or not for all people. So, I feel books kinda started it all and influenced culture and religion (the first books were bibles). I also really like to read. XP
