fake names

A username usually has to consist of a single word, and many names are common so there would be too many people with the same name. If anyone puts my username into a search engine they will find some of my posts and mylot profile. If they put in my real name they will get hundreds of thousands of results that have no connection to me. I also have a pen name, that is slightly different to my real name. I use this for writing articles, so that anyone wanting to find my work can simply do an internet search for that name. We are not using fake names just for privacy, our usernames give us all a unique identity.

i gues its not about privacy,its just liking to use it.mine is not a real name but its a calling name(bombshell) from a best friend so i used it.my name is Doris see i am not hiding my name.

I make nice name. Which maybe make me stands out. I think. I don't like to use my real name much on the internet guess I am a pretty private person. :)

"Fake" is a strong word,I would call it an alias or avatar. Privacy matters and names are not always original but this way you get to pick who you want to be,whether it's your wish or a moment's fancy. Also,people try to express their personality by taking a name. Did you choose your user name for a reason or you just got whatever came to your mind?

I always give my original name everywhere because my friends may recognise me and i may find my old friends

I never use my real name on the internet. I use a couple of different user names, depending on the kind of site. I value my privacy, and it's nobody's business what my real name is. It's also safer not to use your own name because you never know when some nutjob is going to decide they don't like something you said, and track you down and harrass you.

Let's just say that we cannot be too careful when it comes to using the internet. We do not really who are we dealing with online and if we start giving out our real name, we might in up in big trouble. There are so many identity thieves out there who will steal our identities when they get the chance. I use different user names to protect myself from identity thieves. I only give out my real name to people whom I know personally.

Well, in my case, I prefer using this nickname. I have a long history using this nick for the past four years and I will only tell people my name when I know more about them. It also because of privacy. You don't know what is lurking on the other side of the computer.

I sort of use a fake name as the name I use is not my birth name. I have never used my birth name on any site, not even on my emails as I have no wish for my name to be so obvious. The name I do use is a pet name I use in real life so it is my alter ego in real life and on line. I see nothing wrong with using names that are not our birth names, especially in these days of identity theft. You also use a fake name and you reason for doing so have answered your own question.

Ever had a stalker in real life who found you online? No? Well I have. Once was enough. This is why I use a fake name online everywhere. When you have someone calling you at home telling you things they could only SEE you doing, it may make you too a bit paranoid and cautious.

I am amazed that only one person has brought up the fact that you yourself are using a "fake" name. I am amused that you consider yourself sich a veteran already that you can welcome "newbies". Frankly I used fake names because I don't like people my real name. I will only tell my real name to the person(s) that I really trust. This is because I don't want my real name be misused by others who have bad intention. Secondly is because I really don't like to use my real name. I don't know why but I really don't like to use my real name.

I use the name "Rexdoron" just because I like it. I started using it 2-4 months ago when I was about to register myself in Dragonwars game in Facebook. Since that, I uses Rexdoron regularly. Well, if I put my real name, it doesn't such a big issue because not only me that have that name. Same to others I guess. So, maybe other people displayed out other combination of letter to tell their name to reflect how/who they are or maybe it's because they like it. Have a great life. :)

Well, here's my situation. This is my real first name. When I first signed up with mylot, I didn't think of user name also being my screen name. So I wish I had made a fake name simply because anyone that knows me, if they knew I was a mylot member and they go on this site and they see my name and that number, they're going to know it's me. Or be pretty sure it's me. So that could possibly limit my discussions. For instance, If I had a problem with a boss and I went on here asking for everybody's opinion and she or he sees that and knows it's them I'm talkingv about, could lead to an uncomfortable situation. I wish you could choose to change your usename like you can your password.

Not only in mylot that most people use other names. I do use a different name on my yahoo account, too. People are doing this maybe because they love to have a unique names in the sites that they are joining. Or rather, they dont like their names and they are using other names that they hoped they have.

Hard to say. Anonymity is a core function of the internet. Anyone can be anything they want to be here. If your user name has gotten too much negative feed back, sink it and get a new one. If your a blogger, you really don't want a company you gave some really bad feedback to come knocking down your door, right? Sure it leaves the potential for abuse but that's a quark we all have to live with.

I too use a different name. The reason is the username unavailability. My name is Ramesh. Hence I add some stuffs infront of my name and using it.Many people prefer to use different names. But I like using my name only... Happy mylotting,,,

hi thedreamer09, there are billions and trillions of people in the world..and there are millions of people using internet and logged-in into the websites such as yahoo,hotmail,blog and etc..so their are possibilities that your name or i say our names has duplications.. i have tried this several times already, i have the same name, the user name that i was supposed to logged in was already in used,.(even my name can be seldom heard its quite rare,not really rare but it could be seldom heard.).. so i prefer to use an alias or the fake name for me to logged in and have my own personal account.. but when you are dealing for a business like you are selling something online you have no choice but to give your real name but you must be accountable for everything because of the online scammers that might use your name and personal datas' like what happened to my friend that she gave her real name due to her business online her details was being used by the person she has a transaction to. so fake names are good to use, its just a username its a trend nowadays online. http://galilea.multiply.com http://princess-shoobeedoowap.blogspot.com http://profiles.friendster.com/shoobeedoowap xoxo, shoobeedoowap
