it is a wrong number. You tell them this and the person calls back again and again. This had happened to me for weeks. Well one evening my hubby was home and this woman called AGAIN.I told my hubby what had been going on. Shortly she called back. And that is when my hubby answered my cell phone. He told her she had the wrong number. Since then no calls.
Do you think this is because a male voice has more authority? In any case, I found it annoying..

For your sake, I certainly hope so. Sometimes people can have a mental glitch which causes them to routinely mis-dial a phone number. Especially if, say, the number ends with four digits that closely resemble a PIN number on your ATM card or something. But, you would think you'd learn eventually.
What I don't like is when people dial the wrong number and ask you if you "are sure" that this isn't "Dave's" phone or what not. :)

My wife and had been going through a similar circumstance about a month or so ago. The same guy kept calling her cellphone and even though he was repetaedly informed that it was a wrong number and neither of us spoke English, he kept calling and calling. The worst part was that he always did it at times like 1 AM in the morning! In the end, I had someone locally tell him in Arabic that his number had been reported to the mobile operator and the Police for harassment and the calls stopped from there. Interestingly enough, when I had my friend call the number concerned, the guy answered in Arabic "What do you want foreigner??" so he was just some idiot that got a kick out of hearing a foreigner on the other end get angry! lol. Some people really do need a more productive hobby!

I have had people call my home phone but never a cell phone. My sister in law did however and it was a elderly lady and she ended up talking my sister in laws ears off and she called back again the next day said how much she enjoyed talking to my sister in law but she said sometimes when she dialed her fingers didn't push the right buttons since she had arthritis. She only called those few times but hasn't called back since. I don't know if something had been said or what.

I had a call from a doctors office several times from different people in that office. The last time they called I told them that they needed to delete this phone number from their records and send a letter to the person they are trying to reach because it was clearly a keying error on whomever in the office that put in the information and it was causing me to be charged for their error by using up my minutes. That was the last I heard from them.

Yes it happened to me before. A woman sent me text messages first, indicating and seemed to be confident that she’s texting an old friend. I thought at first that it was just a wrong send but she kept on texting and I really don’t mind cases like that – not unless they mention my name. Then maybe the woman must have been wondering she was getting no response and so she gave me a call – more than once – and that’s the time I told her that she’s reaching the wrong number. She called again trying to verify if it’s really the number she called. After a couple of days she stopped.

I had a different kinda experience by wrong number. i had a caller tune of a hit song. One day at 11 in the night a my mobile was ringing and i answered like HELLO,the person on the other side just said me (in an orderly manner) hey i will be calling back,do not attend the call,i just want to hear the song. Before i said anything he cut the callm then again calling. I was irritated by his voice. I just took the call and disconnected for more than 5 times. Then i think he got irritated. No more wrong calls.

Yes and it happened to me a few times. Normally it does come from people calling the wrong number and they kept on asking for a man (NOT the same person but different people). But luckily for me, they normally call me once and after realizing they had the wrong number, they wouldn't call me anymore

Hello ersmommy. Sometimes I receive a wrong phone call, but once I tell the other end, he or she will say, "Sorry, I made a wrong call". It is the same with me when sometimes I make a wrong call. But as to the case you mentioned in the discussion, I have not had such an experience. Take care, friend.

I get that on occasion. I've never had any repeat callers. Usually, once I tell them it's a wrong number, I never heard from them again.

That happens to me all the time, at least two or three times a day, and everytime they call, they're looking for the bank. The banks number and our number have the same numbers in them, but they are in a different order, so people get their numbers mixed up when calling the bank and they always call me, they'll call and when I answer the first thing they say is, "this isn't the bank is it"? I tell them no its not..lol. One time this man called, and the first thing he said, was that he wanted to know how much was in his account, I told him he had the wrong number, he apologized and hung up, then a few minutes later my phone rang, and it was the same man, he asked again about his account, I told him again he had the wrong number, he just kept apologizing, he ended up calling about 6 times, before he got the number right, after about 3 times, I quit answering..lol. I think its funny, I always have to tell them what the banks number is, it still happens everyday...haha.

Maybe, or maybe not. there are plenty of reasons to it. first, maybe the caller thinks you're just playing "i don't know you" thing to her and that she thinks you are her friend and she's calling it right. But, in the contrary, after answering the call by your hubby as you have said, it stops calling? well, maybe she knows your hubby. and after hearing it from him it is another way of telling her that he's there with you. im not saying that your hubby is playing behind your back. im just giving out my thoughts to it. Well, surely the male voice really brings more authority compare to that of women.

I had that problem when I first got my cell phone. It turns out the phone companys reuse your number. I was getting calls saying that Mr. X (because I can't remember the name) needed to be in court at this time and day. I just ignored the first few messages about this but then I called them back and told them they had the wrong person and I never heard of them.

You are probably right, but a very furious female voice works just as well. We had this woman call and started to talk in a foreign language, several times to our number and my husband kept telling her she had the wrong number, and she kept calling again and again. He handed me the phone and shouted "What?" so that she would think that it was the real person calling her who was angry at her. I mean if I had a friend who insisted on calling me when she could have at least waited, I would be angry as well. Because in most cases, it was nothing important sort of "you called me for that?"

Hi there ersmommy1!
This happened to me several times already. There's this person who kept calling me and apparently was looking for someone else. I kept telling her that she might have the wrong number. But I guess it did not work at all. Sometimes it was even a guy who would call me up using the same number as the woman who kept calling me. They speak a different dialect especially when I tell them that they probably had the wrong number. They insisted that they had the right number and I must have been using someone else's number which was impossible as I had a postpaid number (line). After a while, they stopped calling. I never knew who they were.

I've always had luck with my dh answering the phone but he's also had similar problems. We use pre-pay cell phones and had similar experience w/ plan cells that people us it for their emergency contact # & billing. The kicker is I got a school calling about the persons child on my VM! HELLO can't even change the # w/ school or the Dr's office??!?!? Usually when we get any weird calls I have dh answer it and he does that deep deep don't mess w/ me voice & usually the problem is resolved.
I think they assume if they are contacting a female it's the female they are trying to reach not realizing you are not trying to hussle them, that you don't know the person.

Yes,it might be male voice if that was a prank call. I can't say I've been in this situation,I had my share of "wrong number" calls but they usually stopped after 2nd time
However,a woman that I know recently complained that someone's been calling her house at 2 in the morning and whenever she would call back it turned out to be a hotel! She kept getting the answering machine and it all was just weird. I suggested she calls them in day time and clearly explains how unhappy she is and wouldn't they, please, stop.
Otherwise, there is this "no call" directory I always felt tempted to check out. No creditors,no telemarketers, wouldn't that be sweet?...
