Have you ever traveled by sea?

We left England to live in Australia when I was six, so we travelled by sea - it took about six weeks, I think, and although it was a gorgeous ocean liner, I was apparently pretty seasick. My daughter has a 40ft ex-fishing boat which she and her husband use for diving and day trips - and unfortunately I get motion sickness on it, too. Taking travel sickness pills just seems to make me drowsy and a bit slow. I'm not good in the back seats of cars either - and always have to be in the front of buses. A nuisance, as there's good whale and dolphin watching in the bay near where I live, and I'm usually a bit hesitant to go out.

I have never traveled far by sea. I always took the plane because it was much, much faster and more convenient. Even if the price was higher than a voyage by sea, I think I can afford a trip half-way across the world in a plane. I went to Hawaii once and was on a boat to go swim with sharks. I didn't get sick, but my sister did. I do not get sick very easily on boats or planes. I am sure a cruise liner would be much more luxurious then a plane or small boat and my sister would not get sick as easily.

I'm one of those fortunate people who don't suffer from sea sickness. I've been on ferries many times, the longest probably being the North Sea ferry from Newcastle to Norway, but also the ferry from Harwich to Holland and the reverse trip from Denmark to Harwich. Dover to Calais ferry many times of course before they built the tunnel and also a Greek ferry to Naxos which was a pretty smooth ride. One of the North Sea crossings from Bergen to Newcastle was in October, and I was very disappointed that the sea was as calm as a millpond! I was hoping for a more "interesting" trip. Apart from ferries, I've done a bit of recreational sailing as well with a cross channel crossing to and from Brittany and a couple of single handed trips around the south and east coast. I don't have a boat now though and I've never been attracted to cruise holidays - to expensive for one thing. I'm off to the USA towards the end of January - a bit colder than South Africa But I have friends there, that's why Im going.

I have travelled by ferry many times to France too - it's alright and luckily I don't get sea sick at all. I don't think I'd ever go on a cruise as althogh I know they have all the mod cons on board it is not my type of holiday at all except to maybe do a Antartic cruise as think that would be the easie way to see the place!

I have done short trips by ferry such as Fremantle to Rottnest Island in Western Australia; and I have also been on all day fishing trips about 50 kilometres or so offshore. I have been on a felucca in the Nile, water taxi's in Vietnam and ferries also in Hong Kong and a few other places as well. I am generally fine on boats if they aren't rocking around too much! I have never been on an actual Cruiseship though. Many of my friends have and had a great time, but I don't like the idea of being stuck on a floating hotel for days on end to be honest.

If you have more time, having a travel by sea is better. I have traveled by the ships twice. It's very interesting but it's very slow, too. Sometimes staying in the river for a long time is boring. If possible, I like to take a big nice ship and this will be very relaxing. And there will be more entertainment facilities in the vessel and you won't feel so bored anyway. I love China

Hi maximax8! Yes, I have traveled by sea before with my brother, my niece and my cousins. We took a 1st class suite in a ship (thanks to my cousin who paid half of our fare) and it was the best experience I had. I love the accommodations although I do get sea sick. However, my brother was bringing some medicines for all of us so we won't get dizzy or nauseated. And once we took the ferry and I have an anti-dizziness medicine with me. haha.. Happy New Year! since i was small, i have been traveling by sea and i enjoy it. i take medicine for dizziness so i wouldnt get sea sick.

Not a long trip.Once in a school tour,we were taken to Kanyakumari,where we ride on a small steam boat in the sea to Vivekanandhar rock.It was just a 10 or 15 minutes travel but it seemed a long ,long trip,as I hold my breath until we reached there.After spending a while we returned again in the next boat.Never again I wished to travel by sea after that trip.I was so much freightened by the waves that just swung our boat.

i have never had the opportunity to travel a long distance by sea,just a few hours trips and that too by a ferry.i have travelled a lot by boats and i just love it.but i just wish to be on a ship on along voyage atleast once to experience weeks on sea.

i've always wanted to travel most especially by sea. i want to go on a cruise. but unfortunately i don't have money. and my parents won't let me. haha! so i'll just keep on dreaming.

I've never actually been on a cruise ship but I'm certain I could live on one and be very happy. I spent five months working on a hospital ship once and loved every minute of it. We were on a humanitarian mission in the Philippines. The ship was huge but the ocean tossed us like a toy when we hit a storm just a couple of days out of San Diego. I loved it, but then I like storms (as long as no one gets hurt!) My favorite time was at night sitting out on the deck when it was quiet. I loved the smell of the ocean, the feel of a gentle breeze on my skin, and watching the moonlight dance on the water. If I take a cruise just for fun (or maybe I should say when since it's on my to bucket list) I think I'd like to combine it with a hobby like a beading cruise to Alaska, a photography cruise of Europe, a Caribbean mixed media art cruise, or a knitting cruise in China. When I have the time and the money both at once, the hard part will be choosing which cruise to take!

I have travelled several times from Norway to Denmark and Germany. And from Sweeden to Finland, and some trips of a few hours from Sandefjord to Svinesund (Norway to Sweden). I quite like to go on shorter ferrytrips in the fjord outside Oslo. made a nice one to a beach outside og Sydney as well + several trips in Greece. I do not get seasick very often. Sometimes I do get very dizzy for a long time afterwards though - due to having ME. Small boats are the worst.

Hello maximax. I have never traveled by sea, but I have traveled by river, which is the main river in my hometown. I had the river travel for twice. The first time I had a boat travel was when I was a small kid. My sister and I were on the boat trip to my mother's hometown for the Spring Festival, when it was so cold traveling on the river. My sister herself was in her early teens then. It took us three days on the boat. Also on the three-day-river trip, I was badly river sick. The second time I traveled on a boat was a few years ago when my father-in-law organized us to visit his home village in the country. This time it was fun as there were so many of us. I am looking forward to a third time traveling by boat. Good day, friend.

Yes, very much.. I traveled by sea many times/ When I was yet in my country we preferred to ride a big boat when we go to far away island. We still even be on the sea for about 2 nights and 3 days before we reach our destination. I'm not sick on the sea while traveling unless the weather is not good. But most of the time the sea is calm when we are traveling so it is fun!!! I also experienced riding a small ferry many too. I tis because my place is near islands.. our only means of transportation is boats.. that is why I am used to it.

I have never been on a cruise. I would love to go, but there are some strings attached. I love to sing gospel and I travel alot so I said I would only go on the cruise if I was scheduled to sing. If I die I want to go doing something that I really enjoy. I do not think I would go just for pleasure.

One day I hope to go on a cruise .Until then we use ferries and we go on river trips,every opportunity on holiday.We used a water taxi in Dartmouth ,we use the car ferry any boat trip that is within out pocket money for the day.we like a ride on a steam train then a river crossing,then a boat ride in the west country there are loads of these trips,I have sea legs and one day I will use them properly.I do feel sorry for you though it is a shame you don't enjoy the boats and ferries.
