how to be successful? Could anyone tell in just one word a success mantra?

I always had a debate with my cousin abt the success mantra. I always told him "HARD WORK" is the only success mantra and I believe that hard work is directly proportional to luck. the more the hard work , the more the luck. he says luck and hard work plays equal role. A guy who worked day in day out on his way to exam when met with an accident is grossly unlucky is the story he tells. I argue with him telling that a guy who worked very hard would never meet with an accident and would reach his exam hall on time. Therefore Guys, I would like to hear your views in this regard. thank you.

Work is important; whether it is hard or easy depends on you and what you are trying to do. Luck is something we can control if you believe in karma. Cheers!!

for success i would say that hard work does the 90% of the job while luck plays only 10% role in your success. god also helps those who help themselves and hence luck only comes your way if you are hard working and do your work with complete honesty. i agree it can happen that you have worked very hard but dont get the desired results but hard work never goes waste and sooner or later you will get a unexpected result due that hard work.
