With the end of this recent election, our community had a referendum to raise property taxes to help pay for the new schools in the area and continue to support our current schools. Our town is growing sooo much and the new schools were needed to help accomidate that growth. Sadley the referendum was voted down. I think our kids deserve better, I cant say I would vote for a tax increase every time the school is financialy strapped, but sometimes it is what we have to do to keep our kids in school and give them the education that they deserve!! What do you think?

While I support giving our kids a good education, I always question schools when they want more money. In some situations, it's needed. But, in many cases, schools could easily reduce their spending without affecting the quality of the education but don't want to go through the effort.
For example, our school district has 7 elementary schools. Several of them have empty classrooms, wasted space. They could cut $2 million from their budget at a minimum by simply closing one of those schools and dividing the kids among the remaining 6. At most, it would add 4 kids to each classroom and they no longer have to pay for the additional teachers/support staff as well as maintaining the building.
