i have had limewire on my computer before and i think it does slow my computer down a little bit and then i have heard people say before that it slowly destroys your computer and i really don't know if it does or not because i honestly don't know that much about computers...and i was just wondering, because if it does anything to your computer i don't really want it on my computer...so what do you all think, do you think it slows your computer down and possibly harms it or not? i would like to take this time to thank everyone for taking the time out of your day to come by and read and review my discussion and hopefully answering, and trying to help me, and i hope that you all have a great day and night tonight, thanks again for taking the time to stop by.

Here is my honest opinion. Limewire is great because for one very low fee, for six months, you can get any song you can think of within seconds. You don't pay for each download. I love limewire, but I also hate it because it does slow down your computer and you need a lot of space if you plan on downloading a lot of songs. I myself have over 10,000 songs from limewire. But I'm a DJ.
Anyway, there is also the issue with the firewall. Sometimes limewire won't run right if you have a firewall. I needed a song one night for a party I had to DJ for. So I shut off my firewall real quick, just long enough to get the song because I was running out of time.
Within that 2 minute time frame, I ended up with the 2008 antivirus virus on my computer and I have not been able to use it since. It completely shut down my Norton and my computer no longer works. I am thinking twice about ever using limewire again. But maybe it's fine as long as you keep the firewall on but also remember if you are sharing with others, that is also going to slow your computer.
I just recommend being careful what you allow and do if you use it.

That's what I like about "Project Playlist." It's free and you can listen to songs without having to download and permamently taking up diskspace. The selection is probably not as good as Limewire, but it is pretty wide.

Hey,
I have had some experience with Lime Wire so I will share some. I have used Lime Wire a number of years ago and thought that it was rather good. But when I realised that my computer was actually acting all weird I started to wonder what was happening. Because back then I didn't really do virus scans all that often I thought that my computer was all good. But after I downloaded a number of this from LimeWire like some songs and Movies, my computer was acting really slow and starting poping up all these things from the Internet saying that my computer was infected with spyware/viruses. (normally whan they say that, sometimes your computer REALLY IS infected, but don't download their software!!). So after I did a virus scan on my whole computer I realised that it was Lime Wire that was fetching me viruses while I was downloading programs. Never again am I going to use Limewire! :D

Limewire trully does slow down your computer because it uses a lot of memory. It's the price you pay for speed. Other softwares might use lesser resources but it's also not as fast as limewire(that I know of).
Bare in mind that you are sharing files. Other people is downloading from you too and that's why limewire works in the background even when you yourself's not downloading anything. When you download something, you're slowing some other people's computer as well.
As far as I know, limewire doesn't harm your computer directly. The files you download are usually the culprit. Just be cautious of what you see in the list. There're ways to ascertain what you're downloading is safe or not. You can sync your antivirus, firewall, etc. to protect your computer from attacks. Ask around.

It does slow down the computer's speed. But it is an essential requirement if you are a music lover and have a huge fresh appetite. But with a few precautions one can enjoy the benefits. It also claims not to have any kind of spyware but never allow direct access to your hard disk.

We have had both limewire and kaaza on one of our computers and both programs slowed it down quite a bit *and* caused other problems, including adware and viruses. I personally won't use any file sharing sites. They're not safe.

I don't use Limewire. I use DC++ but please don't ask me how to use it. DC++ is by far the safer option. DC++ doesn't install any spyware on your computer either. DC++ is hard to use for a computer novice. I stopped trying to explain how to use it to people.

I have the exact same problem. I really do think it slows down your computer. I don't know what is, like if it's downloading background stuff or if it's just the amount of space it's taking up. I'm thinking about taking it off mine.

Limewire will slow down your computer if you do not know how to use it. Causes of the slowliness: A. You set it auto open when windows start. B. You received a virus. C. You are downloading a big file or a torrent and at the same time using another program. So here is my suggestion: The Causes of slowliness are basically your dont's. Read them use them. If you are downloading a big file whether it be music, video, programs, or other stuff, I suggest you start downloading then set it to stop or pause. Then when you are not in the need to use the computer. Commence the downloading. I gave this tip so that downloading won't slow down your computer while your using it.

Any program that is running, even in the background, is likely to slow your computer.
The Limewire Wiki http://wiki.limewire.org/index.php?title=Frequently_Asked_Questions#Frequently_Asked_Questions specifically says that Limewire does NOT contain any adware or spyware. There are certain precautions you should ALWAYS take, however:
1) Never share the whole of your hard drive. You should normally only allow Limewire to 'see' the Shared folder in your Profile.
2) Always run a virus check on everything you download before opening it. This especially applies, of course, to executable programs because these can contain viruses and other malware. On the whole, music files cannot usually be harmful but if they are in a .zip file (or a self-extracting .zip with an .exe extension), the file may well contain other things besides what you were expecting.
It would be very silly indeed to run Limewire without having a good and up-to-date anti-virus program installed!

That is very interesting. It might. My girlfriend's daughter had it on my computer and I was having problems with speed and even had to reinstall windows a couple of times. But that's all it did. Didn't destroy my computer and it wasn't on there all the time.

jhl930,
I have not tired limewire. I would uninstall the software and see how my systme worked. If this does not help, I would look into other areas and element those. The geek guys answer my questions. Might give them a quick call.
