What book are you reading? Would you like to see it made into a movie?

I was recently having a discussion with one of my nieces. She is 15. And has read all the books in the Twilight series. She went to the movie. And apparently was terribly disappointed. Do you think you would be pleased or let down if a movie came out about the book you are reading?

In the past I have frequently been disappointed in movies made from books I have read but sometimes I have seen movies that have improved the book or at least stayed as good. One that comes to mind is Sahara by Clive Cussler. It is a Dirk Pitt adventure and the movie did it justice. The actors chosen to play the roles of the characters were so close a match that it was as if the book had been written with them in mind and the action in the movie was every bit as exciting as the book described.
With all the advancements in special effects it is easier now, I would think, to translate the adventures from a book to the screen without losing the flavor of the story.
With that in mind I am ready for them to make some movies from my favorite author. I would absolutely love to see The Dragon Riders of Pern on the big screen. That's by Ann McCaffrey by the way.

I can understand why you would want to see the dragon riders of pern in a movie and with modern film making technology they could probably capture the dragons well but there is so much they could not show that is in the writing that I wonder how well it would translate.
Too often I have seen great books disappoint me as movies. I was terrified of seeing the lord of the rings movies as I loved that book so much I could not believe they could show it and not lose something. They impressed me but that is rare.

I'm currently reading Kiss of Fire by Deborah Cooke, the first book in Dragonfire series. It's about shapeshifting dragon warriors called Pyr who defends their kind and humans against their enemy called, Slayers. It's a paranormal romance about Quinn, the Smith and Sara, the Seer.
I like the book, and considering it has fantasy elements like dragons, it would probably look great on screen. Even if I'm always disappointed, I'm still curious everytime some filmmaker tries to put a book on screen. Still, when it does happen, I always remind myself that writing and moviemaking are two different disciplines, and one cannot really expect the same result.

Right now, I am not reading any book. But I know what you are talking about. I watched the movie "Dracula" and "Exorcist" after reading the books, and I remember feeling disappointed. The movies were just not as terrifying as the books; I think I used my own imagination a lot to feel terrified when I was reading the books. In case of the movies, I had to depend on someone else's imagination. :)
Cheers and happy Mylotting

I think that most movies made from books are a terrible disappointment because they change the story to suit the movie. There are some exceptions, the lord of the rings was faithful and I am pleased about that as I loved the book very much.
I have just recently started to read Harry Potter after having seen the movies and I have to admit that they got the characters very well but there is so much more in the book than the film and I love them more than the movies.
I think it makes a difference if the author can do the screen play or at least has some control over it. Or where the film maker truly cares about the book and does a good job. There are not many who do that. Too often they want to make the story theirs and they fiddle with it, usually ruining it in the process.

Well, I just finished some books from the Silhouette Nocturne series and I must say I would definitely love to have them made into movies. Actuall they are making are one out called Underworld: the rise of the Lycans

I have never watched a movie that was started out as a book. I have always heard that the movie is always not as good as the book. So I just read the book and keep up by reading the book. It makes sense to me that the movie would not be as good as the book.

Most often, disappointed. As my mother once explained it to me, your imagination fills in all the details very well. When your vision is different than the directors, it can be irritating. It is worse when they take creative license. Sometimes a movie maker can spin a good story with a different perspective. Most of the time, it spoils it.

i would like to watch JUlie Garwood's book be turned into movies...
i love all her books and have read every single one of them. and honestly, i secretly want to see how those scottish highlands look like. the books make them sound like heaven, and since i'm still not earning, i can't possibly travel to scotland. so a movie will do...
in fact, i do like those medieval scottish lairds vs english lasses...
BUT the book i'm currently reading is a historical romance set in england though...

I'm in a book club and I'm currently reading "The Choice" by Nicholas Sparks. Although I have not seen any of them, several of his books have been made into movies including "A walk to remember" and "The notebook".
"The Choice" has not impressed me so far. I am 2/3 of the way through it and thus far it is only talking about the main couple getting to know each other. The teaser on the back says that it is a story spanning the years. I'm not sure how many of the few pages left are going to be devoted to that! At this point in the book, I can't see this being a movie.

I don't read the books first. But I watch the movies that are released based upon novels and books. After that I start reading the particular books. This is because after visualizing the movie it will be easier for me to imagine the characters and the number of pages read per day increases. Moreover I get interest after watching movies only.,
