Is it really cheaper to do it yourself?

After the economic hardships that my wife and I faced this year I am seriously considering subsistence farming. In theory it sounds great to have your own fresh vegetables growing in your backyard, but after watering, fertilizer and general upkeep is it really cheaper than just going to the store?

It depends on how often you eat the vegetables...if they're going to go to waste then it's not worth it. I haven't grown a garden in years but I plan to start, partly for the money savings and partly because I enjoy it. I used to get way too many tomatoes from my plants, plenty of green beans and peas, yellow squash and cucumbers, too. We even grew corn one year and had a bunch of that, too. I never worried about fertilizer too much...just made sure I conditioned the soil before planting and kept my garden watered regularly.

Not every Do it Yourself turns out be great work or good work.I tried to repair my radio while watching a Do It yourself video on you tube and beleive i totally messed it up and got scolded by my mom. lol. But growing vegetable in own backyard is really good becuse you will always get fresh vegetable to eat and secondly you are sure its safe and cheaper too

s defnitely cheaper! i have a garden in my yard and my parents grow all kind of fresh vegetable. This is a very smart idea too... because you won't believe how much money you will save, no need to go to the grocery stores and most of all you don't have to worry about old vegetable, because you have some fresh one to eat.
you are making a smart choice.
