I clean all the year round. I do not even do spring cleaning. If will throw things away, sort out things, clean the floor, vacuum the carpet, clean the cupboards, etc. when it needs it and a bit at a time. If I were to leave it until the end of the year, there would be so much stuff piled up that I could not get out of the house.

Well I have this white kitchen floor that gets dirty all the time. And I have so much stuff on my computer desk, that it is hard to find things. And we do have a habit of putting papers on the coffee table, and we do not have much storage space. But at least the garbage pick up man came on Monday so I can take the recycled trash outside.

oh aye!!!
i like to welcome the new year fresh. it marks a new beginning.
however this year, my mum is very busy with her work & i have managed to clear my table (today). well, the house isn't exactly clean, but i'm sure the NEW YEAR would still be as good a beginning for both me and you. =)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Yes me and my wife have a habit of general cleanining before new year comes. But that is not Christ era new year. This is Bangla new year. It's our custom to clean our household things before New Year. Our Bangla New Year falls on 14th of April. We perfom Bangla New year in a very festive mood.

I like to start the New Year with a super clean house so I usually spend New Years eve day cleaning ours from top to bottom. It seems silly as we inevitably have people over and drinks get spilled and food gets dropped on the floor but it's still nice to have a clean house for the celebration. And if someone has too much to drink and ends up getting sick I'm sure they appreciate the squeaky clean toilet!

Hi bombshell,
I do and I learned it from my Mom...you know in our COuntry, we believe in a lot of things and I enjoy also doing that here...LOL!
Plus having a very clean surrounding helps us to think peacefully and helps us to relax our mind! LOL!
So, I am like that, make sure everything is clean!

You know what, yes I do! I was always taught that you never bring in the New Year with Old dirt lol, so I usually try to have everything straightened as best as possible for the New Year. So why does it seem that things get dirty twice as fast lol???

As per the rest of you, I clean "a little " when putting up decorations and do thorough cleaning when taking it all down. Then starting a new month, and a new year with a clean house with everything back in it's rightful place after decorations put away! Happy Cleaing to u all!

General cleaning happens a lot of times in a year but the most tedious general cleanings happen on days prior to occasions because of the visitors who are bound to come.
Most of us just clean to avoid scrutiny, don't we? LOL

Hi bomb, yes fiestas too. That's even more tedious than New Year. LOL.
Scrutiny is similar to criticism.
Most of us clean to avoid "being criticized", or judged, or humiliated....they are all of about the same meaning.
Enjoy!!

Yes, I do it too. However, being an Indian Hindu, our new year is in April, at the onset of spring/summer. It’s a general practise with us and all the furnishings and covers would be dusted and cleaned. Some even buy new furnishings, if they can afford it . so its somewhat like a combination of spring cleaning and welcoming the new year too.

If you are still in the habit of cleaning, I might forward my address. My computer desk needs some cleaning. I have to clean the computer room myself and I always leave it for another day.

When I was able, I cleaned thoroughly right before I started putting up all my Christmas decorations, which normally would take place the day after Thanksgiving. Then the decorations stay up until at least the day after New Year's Day. Once they are down I do a thorough cleaning once again just to clean up all the mess from the holidays. But it is not done because it is the start of a new year. Only that cleaning for Christmas and after is such a big job.

I had to laugh when I saw this discussion. Just today, I throughly cleaned my living room, office, and bathroom. Tomorrow, I will get the kitchen and my bedroom. I always clean my house thoroughly right before the beginning of the new year, as well as several other times a year. I like to think that I am starting the new year out right when my house is spotlessly clean, or as close to it as possible.
