Those of you out there that do get depressed: Do you feel it coming on? Do you feel the feeling coming on? Are you able to get up and get some exercise or whatever you need to do to feel better? Or, do you just let it take you over?

That sounds so very easy. For a person who have lived the better part of 58 years with chronic severe depression I can tell you it just is not as easy as it looks.

it all depends, I sometimes just go to bed and things look very different in the morning. I wanted some pills but the doc won't subscribe them for me.

Sometimes I can feel it coming on... I'm the "get up and exercise" type when I feel bad.. I ride the storm out and hope to live through it.

Hey celtic~I have chronic depression and unfortunately I can
sometimes feel it coming on, but can't always do much about it.
I take medication for it and see a therapist once a week. But
at this time of year I kind of get down and just have to talk
myself into not letting myself get too depressed. I have been
doing pretty well this year. I haven't let myself get into a
deep depression like I usually would this time of year. I have
been kept pretty busy. I also have my boyfriend to thank for
that because he keeps me busy cooking for him and taking care
of the apartment and we were busy doing the re-decorating of
the apartment so I didn't have too much time to think about
how badly I was feeling. That really is the key. Keeping busy
is the most important way to avoid getting really depressed.

I can usually feel when my depression is about to begin. I also know that I have a predictable 2 month cycle. I have been trying for years to come up with a list of personal signs, and ways to prevent the depression once I notice them. I have not been very successful. Depression seems to have it's way with me, beyond all of my defenses.
