I have always liked the idea of collecting items from yardsales and various junk stores and reselling them for a profit. I know there is a lot of money in the resell business, the problem is that I have no idea what to look for. Any tips from mylotters?

I usually look for the cheap things and free stuff they have at yard sales you would be amazed at how mush a little bow here and some cleaning and other minor things make a little item look new again, games for xbox and things like that are good as well.I wish you luck in your treasure hunt for goodies.Have a great day

Old Tupperware is a very big seller on ebay and usually really, really cheap and/or free.

I would search online for what sells the most on Ebay, craigslist and such as that. I would also think you would just have to have a nack for it. Always check for 1st editions when looking at books. Think what you would spend money on if you were buying. DVD's and videos seem to be big sellers. Check on ebay for big turnover on favorite sellers. Seasonal articles too. Gardening stuff coming up in Spring. Halloween costumes in late Fall. Things like this. Room to store things too so that when you find a good seller you can stock up. Hope this helps and good luck in your endeavors.

I have been doing it for years. It's tons of fun but you have to acquire an "eye" for stuff. Like most everything else, experience is the best teacher. I would advise that you start visiting Antique shops and get a lot of books with pictures from the library. After a while you will be able to tell right away if something is old or not. For instance, not much "made in China" is worth much or if it has a UPC code. Many things made in Japan are valuable, especially if it's marked "Occupied Japan". Anything old and signed by an artist such as pottery, furniture or lamps are usually good. And of course the condition of the item has a lot to do with everything. Good luck and happy hunting.
