Ancestry from Japan..How to trace?

I have a numerous travel to Japan and my experienced in the airport is always the same. The immigration officer is keep on asking if I am a Japanese since my real surname is a Japanese surname. I have started to trace my ancestry but it is difficult to move on. I would like to know if any from myLot has this experience already or have tried something like this already, to find their ancestry from any other countries.

try consulting the japanese embassy in your country maybe they could help you...or ask some people you know whom you think have japanese in their blood or like you trying to trace also..

Great advise. I will try to wrote a letter or email to Japanese embassy or maybe look for their web site and inquire. Thanks for the suggestion, I really appreciate it.
