Odd as it may sound a have to drink one or two cups of coffee before going to bed. If I don't I am up all night. I think my body must have an addiction to caffeine. I drink 12 to 18 cups of coffee every day. if I don't I get a pounding headache and my body gets all jittery.

Hi conbill. Thanks for your respond. But it worries me because you got a heavy addiction to coffee. 12-18 cups a day is not little. It's like drinking coffee as water. Well, maybe it's easy to say this rather than do it myself but you need to change your drinking coffee habit. If you believe you can then you can. You need to take more water than coffee. It's not good for your kidney.

I used to be like that before. Even after drinking 3 or 4 cups, I can doze off immediately. But now, even if I just have 1 cup, I have difficulty sleeping. I'm not complaining. Actually, I like it the way it is now because I know that whenever I need my eyes wide open, I can rely on that 1 cup of coffee to assist me.

Hello,Caesarin! Drinking too much coffee is not good for health, specially one should not drink coffee before going to bed.At the long run it will damage your health.Instead you may drink a glass of warm milk which will help in many ways.thanx.

Hi bbsr13. Thanks very much for your information. But I believe too much of everything isn't good for health, don't you think? But anyway, I heard that coffee could lead to ostheoporosis.
And I don't really like milk. I don't know why but I just don't like it much like people who can drink milk everyday.

Well, I am a coffee lover. I drink an average of 5 cups a day. It seems that coffee has different effects on me, depending on what time I drink it. Usually in the morning, I drink coffee and makes me active and awake. I drink coffee during breaks. In the evening, I drink coffee but never had a problem going to sleep.

I can too.... several people doesn't manage to sleep after drinking coffee (ore tea) after dinner, or even during the afternoon.. instead, fortunately I manage... there are other causes that don't let me sleep, as light, noises or something like these... I drink coffee almost everyday... I wouldn't do it, if it caused me problems..

Sometimes coffee can bring the opposite effect: after drinking coffee, a person becomes sleepy and very lazy.
I prefer energizers instead of coffee, if the main goal is to stay awake. But otherwise, I adore the taste of coffee, but it does not help me to stay awake. I don`t know why. Maybe already addiction.

My roommate laughs at me because he says how can you drink coffee and go to sleep, why doesn't it keep you awake like me. I have no idea, I am the same as you.

Drinking processed coffee has a short term effect on me. After that I become worse off, feeling more sleepy and more tired. That is why I can sleep after drinking coffee. Maybe because during the process something important is lost, or the ratio of chemical constituent changes and leads to different reactions in different people.
Strangely enough one local brand, not easily available, does have the desired effect.
all the best,
rosdimy

Hi rosdimy. It's weird how some people like us are not much affected by coffee. How it put us to bed anytime while people can't sleep after a cup of it or sometimes just a sip of it. I also think that maybe it's the chemicals in our body which react differently to the caffeine.
God bless you.

I can go to sleep after drinking coffee also. Maybe it is just a myth that it keeps us awake. I know it keeps me more alert if I want it to, but drinking it before I go to bed does not stop me sleeping in the slightest.
I am glad others on this discussion are like me also. Both tea and coffee have the same effects with me also.

I drink probably 3 cups a day and have to make sure i dont have any about 6 hours before going to bed. If i have loads of stuff to do then i will have some or an energy drink late at night, other wise i stay off the black stuff as my brain races around like crazy when i try to sleep.

Hi woocoo. Thanks very much for your respond.
I used to drink 2-3 cups a day when I was working. I don't know why, but I just enjoy it. Probably it help me concentrate more on what I was working on.
But since I'm staying I rarely took coffee unless when I want to sometimes.
Also when I'm not feeling to eat. I took a cup of coffee and that made a one meal of the day.
