I went to grab ahold of Shilo, our akita, and she moved at the same time and whacked my hand. Now I have a great big bruise where I guess the blood vessels broke it looks nasty and hurts like all get out. Ataching a pic. Doesn't look too pretty!
Oh and by the way it didn't phase Shilo one bit. She was jumping around smiling and acting like the village idiot not knowing that Mommy was hurting, da+n dog!

I been scratched and bit a few times by my cats and dogs. It really does hurt. I grab for the antibiotic ointment and get some on the area as soon as possible, then keep doctoring it with peroxide washes and ointment, sometimes I try to cover it with a band aid for a part of the day. I really think wounds need to have air as well as protection. Animal nicks and scratches are always something to be alerted to taking care of properly even if they are our own pets.

Well the skin is not broken so I am not worrying about infection.

As long as this doesn't become a normal action for your dog I wouldn't worry about it. Seeing she is still considered a pup ~ she was probably playing. These kinds of things have happened to me (not that severe tho) in the past with pups ~ Although they have always reacted to my getting hurt and stopped. Did you let out a yell or an OUCH!? If so ~ Seeing she didn't stop and see what was happening would make me nervous. Keep a watchful eye out on her with others just incase Hope you heal quickly...

Oh shilo is a sweetheart just over exuberant. She is excitable. She wasn't jumping on me just doing her I am happy dog jump. She lays down for others to rub her and admire her. She literally will lay down and not move till they acknowledge her lol.

Oh that does look like it hurts. You must of hit it pretty hard. I have a bad leg and my dogs always seem to want to lay on the area that hurts the most. Go figure. I think they know. They just don't know what to do about it.

Wow sweet! That does look painful! I don't think Shilo has
any idea how big she is and how strong she is either! I think
that she thinks she is this little tiny puppy! That must have
been some whack she gave you! She really doesn't know her
own strength! I think you should have gotten a little tiny
puppy like Shilo thinks she is! You would have been alot
safer! I hope your hand feels better! You better keep icing
it so it doesn't continue to swell!

She has really no idea her size. I think we are going to invest in a training collar this month. She is normally very good and very sweet but then there are days like today when she just won't listen.

No she didn't cause she is still a puppy albeit a big puppy at 80+ pounds. She turns one in a month. She just doesn't know her own strength.
