Just a simple question: Who among you consider myLotting as blogging? I think myLotting and blogging has a lot of similarities. First is the discussion which can be your blog post. Next is the responses which are the blog comments. And your friends are you RSS readers. Of course, to market your blog, you have to comment on other blogs. That's the same with responding to other discussions. What do you think? Do you use myLot as your daily blog?

There's no similarity at all between Mylot and blogging. Mylot is a discussion forum, and it would be very hard to track down any particular discussion unless you've bookarked it or left a reply so that it's in your record. Blogs allow you to build a searchable archive of posts, which can usually be found in several different ways. Blogs are also chronological, and are usually maintained by one person. If you want to keep up with a blogger's posts, there are many ways to do it, including RSS feeds. Trying to keep up with one person on Mylot is almost impossible because you would have to go through discussions that the person only posted on, but didn't start.

Yes. Personally I wish Mylot made it easier to keep up with individual people and interests. It's actually quite difficult to find anything here, that is why people keep coming up with the same discussions over and over again.

The archiving point is good! You have a great point in there. But I would like to say that if you would turn you notifications on for a specific myLot member, it's like subscribing to his blog via email. And you can always go to his profile and see "discussions he has started".

I guess My Lot is a kind of blog and I think that this is the most exciting place as regards blogging! You've brought it up in a good way, I never thought of that. Anyway, I sure do love My Lot and I would be lost without it. Andrew

I don't think mylot could be considered as a blog. It's more of a forum. A blog is one's personal thoughts and experiences. It's a habit where you try to share the events in your life. People merely read your thoughts and would comment, but comments and responses aren't really expected. Well, perhaps if you truly follow a mylotter's posts, then maybe it's a blog. On the other hand, a forum is more of like someone throwing a question, it's actually actively trying to let every reader participate. Sort of like what we're doing here in mylot. Someone throws a question and the rest would interact or react. Well, that's how I view it. Further, mylot is better than blogging since you need not think about each and every topic. It's more of a group sharing of thoughts and topics like how forums are. In contrast with forums though, the topics aren't limited to the field of the forum. I mean, there isn't any clear-cut point as to what mylot serves to inform about. Unlike forums where it's mostly based on something (e.g. music, or some type of a new technology etc.). Happy New Year!

there is a way of following a myLotters post, it's by turning the notification for his discussions on. You can find it in the friends page. Well, I think you already know that. But it's like subscribing in his blog too.

Usually it's not very similar at all. On a blog you have more control over what people see, you can keep all your posts together easily, and you can moderate. Also, successful blogs tend to have much higher quality writing than I or most other mylotters produce. I have noticed though that some people write bits and pieces of their life story here every day, which IS much like blogging. These people should start their own blogs.

comment moderation is another difference. In here, we really can't do nothing to moderate things, not even edit our entries.

That is a very interesting way to look at it. I do not use myLot as a daily journal or blog but it seems like many people do and could as it is not a bad idea. If you look at it that way, mylot would be more of a daily what happened today blog and a blog on Blogger or Wordpress or something would be about something more specific such as making money online using GPT sites or something.

yes, more of a personal blog rather than a professional or expert blog. I also think it is not a bad idea. I think they are getting their responses so some people like reading those too.

Yes, people here are really active in giving advice. I think that is what is really great about this myLot community.

Yes, some people's daily lives can be very interesting or they are good at making it really interesting. I think it also has to do with the fact that people are trying to give advice or help them get over a bad day or something similar.

Nope. Of Course not. What you say is correct. You just post something and we are adding comments to it as response. But the major factor in blogging is traffic. In blogs, its too difficult to get and in mylot its not that difficult to get some good comments. Haha. This is the major thing that differs. Mylot is just a discussion site. You start a discussion and we are continuing to discuss with you in your topic. Thats it. Finally the discussions ends by choosing the best response. Lol. Happy mylotting.

Yes! The best response! I think that is the main difference. And it differs in the way it is monetized. For a blog, you will earn if you receive a lot of traffic and you sell something to others. In mylotting, you earn if your discussion receives a lot of responses.

I don't receive much responses in my discussions. See my discussions. But it's better than my blog. Because no one posts comments there.

Yup. Adding friends here is more easy. And if we do that we can get good viewers and responders to our discussions. But getting traffic is a tough thing to do in blogging. Lol. If we try to that then of course no one will be interested in mylot because we can earn good amount in blogging. After which no one will get interest in low earnings. Lol.

Well, in a lot of ways, there are simularities, but I would consider myLot to be more like a forum or Yahoo groups where a group of people come and post about various things going on in ones life and everyone else reads them and responds back to them. It could be just a few, or a lot but in the end you end up learning something New about a lot of the people in here as well.

I have not really been active in a lot of yahoo groups but I am thinking it is just like a forum like myLot. myLot is much more confined to its members.

In some ways I do see myLot as a form of micro-blogging I guess. I personally do not have time to maintain a fully fledged blog and at least this site allows me to move around quickly and easily and say whatever I wish to say from time to time without any hassles! So in this sense, I suppose I do use mylot as my daily blog, yes.

Yes, I agree with you somehow. Some of the interesting and meaningful discussions of ours could be termed as bloggs. We start a discussions and then it is responded and then we go for comments or counter-comments.....and in the process keep sharing our ideas with others.

Hi richiem, I have no blog and wish to learn how to do it but I will not consider my participation here as blogging! I have read my friend's blog and it is more detailed about what they are doing etc, if I have a blog, I will only pick up topics that I will post here! LOL! Not that because I don't trust people here but there are things happening in my life that will not interest other people for sure,,,,LOL! Whereas in my blog, it's like my diary!

But a blog is also open to the public. (But I guess there is an option in blogging to keep your blog private).

Yup, mylotting is more or less like a blog.. It allows us to share our feelings and experiences, just that we will have more comments to it, as compared to a real blog.. Furthermore, mylot is much better as far as i think, because there are alot of traffic in here, and the features wont really lose out to a real blog as well ^_^ hehe

That's true, there are many similarities particularly in the writing style. But blogging is a little bit more serious in that you can't simply talk about a thing or a person or an event with a few quick sentences. There has to be more depth to what you write even in blogs. Sure, it's not always editorial-worthy, but there has to be some kind of structure and unity in blogs.

Yes. I don't think blogs with only one sentences for a post would gather a lot of readers. And usually blog readers like it when the bloggers are good writers.

That's exactly what I use mylot for. It's my way of blooging. I find it much easier to get a response here at mylot rather than trying to get traffic to my personal blog website. But to me they are both the same thing. You pretty much say come here to say what's on your mind and wait for someone to respond. Mylot and blogging serve the same purpose. You talk about what ever is on your mind. Sometimes people rerspond and sometimes they don't.

One difference I noticed here is that because I am here for the money, I start discussions which will acquire a lot of responses, even resorting to useless ones.

At least you are honest about being here for the money. I think everyone here is. We all still enjoy rarticipating in discussions, but it's more motivation to come here and boost your earnings. I have not yet started to post meaningless discussions yet. There are alot of dumb discussions that I see people start here that get more attention than the serious ones. That's what surprises me more than anything. Like someone will start a blog like "how many M&M's can you eat" or "do you peel the skin off of your chicken before you eat it". It's the stupid discussions like those that get the most responses. I have someone in my friends list who starts dumb discussions like this. It kind of pissed me off because I get my emails on my cell phone everytime a someone in my friends list starts a discussion. I got a ton of emails a few days ago from the same guy starting the dumbest discussions. It's obvious he was just trying to get his numbers up. But he sounded like an idiot!
