whenever someone tells me that i dont talk or im silent i get offended.
i have a lot of self esteem issues while growing up. and it also takes me a while to warm up with other people. But when i do have friends and when im comfortable with the environment, everybody knows me as fun loving and funny. i love to talk with people and get to know them. i also perform onstage sometimes.
Now, i am in a new environment. i just hate it when they say that i dont talk. Well i talk but im just not noisy cause im not craving for attention. i just dont like it that that is their judgement of me. Does anybody also think like me? How could you descibe this behavior of mine?

I know exactly what you mean. In front of my family I'm just normal (funny, talkative, etc...), but in public I'm quiet and extremely shy, which leads people to think that I'm always like that, and that I'm no fun. Only my family, and the few good friends that I do have, know the real me. I guess I'm getting better at overcoming my shyness (is that a word?) now, though. I think that the biggest reason that I'm shy in front of strangers is my appearance-- I look waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy younger than I really am, and if I act like my own age, people will think I'm proud or arrogant, you know what I mean?

I think it is not wrong to behave like this. The only problem will arise is when you do not talk to people even when they are nice to you. With the changing environment it is difficult for me also to adjust through the changes. I guess this attitude is fine with me.

I also try to speak to people especially if they are nice to me. But still the judgement stays there.and it's quite frustrating. But i hope i can adjust to the changes just like you. thanks dropofrain

I am quiet until I get to know people. Then, when I am comfortable, I loosen up a bit. This is somethign that I am trying to overcome a bit because I continually have to meet new people in my work. I have to give a good first impression, so I can't be so shy and quiet. I have to build myself up and let them know I can do the job with confidence.

I have that thinking also. When I was still a student,I experience same thing as you. I really hate it when people judge me when I not talk. Sometimes, they ask me if do I have a tongue. Well, I find it kind of insulting. It was just because during my school days, our teacher always instruct grouping activities. And sometimes, it is so hard for me to mingle with my classmates who has different attitude than me. I know that it is proper to mingle with them because they are my group mates but in terms of throwing jokes with each other that I do not want, I just stay quiet. Especially, I do not like the times in which we have to do some stuffs in a particular subject, and need to do it outside the campus. Those times are so hard for me because the group where I was assigned to has members who has vices like smoking and drinking. I not want even to try those, that is why I feel so miserable and just wish for our meeting to end. However, when it deals with topics related to our project, I try to give contribution and share ideas I have in me.I guess, many people are experiencing same things just like us also. Well, for me, I just don't mind them.It is also funny that while our close friends think of us very naughty and noisy, some people think of us the opposite ways.

hi annierose.
im happy that there is someone like you who thinks the same as i do.
it may be true for you too that it takes time before we truly adjust to our environment and peers esp.if they're new. as for the vices, yes, im also having a hard time dealing with the fact thei have to interact with these people who are so unlike me. thanks for responding bec at least i hav someone to share these feelings too. especially when you said when they ask you if you hav a tongue -quote from you..well yeah that feels insulting right.
well i hope ou will have success in that environment of yours and hope you find happiness.

kukaisition,
I am one who believes people should accept other for who they are. So many people are out there with a life mission to change others. I find that those who are, are seeking to change others because of what they see wrong with themselves (even if they say there is nothing wrong). Some days I am very outgoing and others...well, I just smile. Be true to yourself!

There's nothing wrong with being quiet. I really don't care if I'm labeled as silent. I talk to the people I know well or someone who addresses me. But I don't feel the need to start conversations with people in school unless I actually know them. Kukaisiton, don't let it bother you. You know who are you around your friends and the people that are close. Anyone that calls you silent in a less-than-respectful way are just obnoxious or haven't taken a moment to get to you in friendly way.
Fools are quick to speak. ^.^

There was a stage in my life where I seem to be like you.....quiet and mostly of my own most of the time. That was when I feel am somewhat inadequate in many things and I felt inferior. But as I go mature in life I learned to be a little sociable and more conversant and I seem to eliminate my inferiority complex. I guess you're right, those feelings stem up from some self esteem issues during childhood.
Just learn to socialize and bear in mind that no one is perfect. Mistakes even makes us learn more in life and as human we are bound to commit some at times. Don't be offended when someone commented on your silence; just show to them that you are capable in doing a lot of things and being talkative doesn't always help.

WE WERE THE SAME. Not until I took up voice, piano, guitar, drum and violin lessons which has a regular recital after eight weeks, so in that I developed my self confidence. You lack self confidence and trust in yourself. Everytime you feel like giving up, just repeat "I can do this". Also if you're a silent, research says that you must have an outlet like friends to talk to. Befriend someone who is like you and hopefully he/she will introduce you to his/her friends which are just like you.

Hi Kukaisiton,
I am exactly like you, I am comfortable in my own enviorment wher I am outgoing and funny and friendly, but if I am somehere new then I am very quiet because I don't know anybody, then someone would say I am quiet, it does annoy me.

Well, don't get sour because there are many people who are like you. I myself is often branded as a snob because I don't often talk to people. I am a quiet person when in a public place. I don't like going out and talking with my neighbors. I love staying inside my home and doing things rather than going out and talking with the people outside. That is why people say I don't talk to them and think I am a snob. But really, I am an easy person to be with and I laugh a lot when with people I am close with. Sometimes, people judge without knowing the person they are judging.

normal. i agree with you. people say the same about me. i'm not actually quiet. i talk alot, just to people i know very well, and like. if i don't know someone or am not comfortable with them, then i won't really talk to them. cause i really don't need the attention from those people. people that need lots of attention like to call out those who are not making lots of noise to draw even more attention to themselves. makes them seem um...what's the word? confident. well that's what they think. and what most people think. but to anyone that isn't fake, or can think on their own, it just shows their fear.

i guess i am like you because i am also quiet and it takes some time for me to warm up with people i just met. however, it is ok with me if they make comments about my silence. frankly, i do not care what they think because they have not gotten to know the real me yet. take care and have a nice day!
