I'm wondering how many moms suffered, or are still suffering, from PPD. I had PPD with my last child. What helped you, did you take meds, go to therapy? I was giving meds that I could take while breastfeeding and went to therapy once a week.

I took meds. I did see a therapist, briefly, and my hsuband even went with me a few times. My PPD became complciated by my other undiagnosed issue (ADHD). I still moderate a PPD support message board. http://www.outofthevalley.org

My son is 8 months tomorrow and I am just starting to feel the full effects of postpartum depression. It is not fun. I guess it's been there the whole time, but it is really starting to manifest itself lately. I went to the doctor this passed monday and she put me on Lexapro and I already feel better. Thank goodness, I was afraid that my hubby was going to leave me!! lol

well, i think i have it. i got preggy really quick after my first im stil preggy now. It is hard to do anything i feeel so tired and depressed sometimes. I just want to give up cuz it seems like everythign i do is not making a difference no matter how hard i try and how much effort i put into it. but somehow i just keep going. It is very hard for me to find any help because myhusband and i moved to a different state (very far away) and no family except for his bipolar father who is never around to help. he's more of a burden cuz he is angry drunk so i dont like him around anyways. My family is thousands of miles away. i have tried to get help but everything here is so religious there's a catch to everything. they sit there and tell me im gonna go to hell and stuff when al i want is just a little emotional suport. so i am all alone now here. i guess i have good reasons to be depressed. we are thinking about moving to a less religious state. my husbands in a union so we can hopefully transfer if not then he wil prob quit his union job and find some construction job somewhere. we are just so fed up with this place and the ignorance that plagues the ppl here.

How long did your depression last? I've written a book called "Avoiding Overwhelming Pain in Childbirth" (c2006CathieMorales) and I'm posting discussion topics on postpartum depression for my next book. Here's a link to my website, Auntie Natal 911 http://www.auntienatal911.com

I am still suffering PPD. It wasn't diagnosed until DS was 18 months old. At that point it was so severe that I was put on the highest dose of Celexa that is prescribed. I also went to therapy once a week. I think the only benefit of the therapy for me was that I was able to get out of the house once a week without DS. The medication helped immensely. Within two days I was smiling again (I hadn't realized I had stopped smiling). Within a week I was laughing again. I also lost 17 lbs in the first week because I stopped eating out of stress. Unfortunately due to a loss of health insurance, I went off of the Celexa recently. Now that we have insurance again, I just started taking it again. I'm hoping things start looking up soon!
