Hi youless I’m rather curious and interested to know why you have so many laptops at home. You don’t tell me you use all the 4 laptops at the same time to surf net. Or there are other members in your family surf net as well.
I would use the wireless router to surf net if I use both the desktop and laptop at the same time. The USB modem has a single USB port only so it could serve a computer to access internet connection only. I have to use the wireless router when my son is back to home or my nephew visits me, for using the wireless router we then could use more than one computer at the meanwhile.
There is another advantage which I enjoy most when using the wonderful wireless router, yeah I could access network at any corner of my house. It’s really convenient for I’m not restricted anymore at just staying in a small confined place. My son has set a password for the sake of security to prevent outsiders to access and share the network using our wireless router.
posting and 2009!

My husband and I have two laptops. Then later I bought one small laptop for my mom and my son. It will be convenient to use since it's small. Although they spend less time on it. After some time, my dad said it would be difficult for my mom to use small laptop, then he bought one bigger for her. This is why there are four laptops at my home. I didn't mention that I have a desktop, too

Thanks for telling me this and to solve my puzzle finally.
Seems that your dad is the solely one in your family that doesn’t have any interest in using computer. However I appreciate him. He is a real generous and caring gentleman who is so considerate to his partner
Oh, my gosh! There is still another desktop eh! It seems like your sitting room is a mini café
Have a nice day.

Good evening, youless. I have only a wire router instead of a wireless one. Speaking of router for the use of the Internet, I will have to go and pay for the service fee for the Internet for the coming year. Here we usually pay it in advance or pay the service monthly. Last year I paid 980 for the service fee. I am not sure whether it will be cheaper this year.
I am glad that it is very convenient for you to use the laptops with a wireless router. Enjoy yourself, youless. Good night.

Good afternoon, youless. In the school my colleagues and I share the same modem with an extra router and it is much cheaper this way, but in my own house, each household pays for their own fee because it is not allowed to share. But it is ok as it is not too expensive in my hometown. This is the so-called differential in price.

wow, that are 4 laptops in your house! Why do you need so many of them? I am using a very old wireless bought in 2003. It's still using the 401.1B standard, which is at 10Mbps speed, and it's much slower than the G+ standard nowadays. I am still using it, because my broadband service is only 512kBps. So at most, the download speed will only go up to 4Mbps and it will never exceed the hardware limitation. Therefore, that's the reason why I am still stick to the existing wireless router.
Back in those days, wireless routers are still very expensive. I bought this one at an discounted price, at USD $30. Other routers are sold at $40 to $50 range. It's has been working fine most of time, but with some intermittent down time. So I need to power off it in order to reset it, and everything will be back to normal again. This is quite frustrating sometimes, because the router is far from where I place my laptop.

Actually I have 2 desktops in my home too! They could be used as backup purpose when my laptop is down. But it's my internet connection that breaks down more often than my laptop So, I think it's good to have more laptops than having only one. You could still work on your paperwork or online when one of the laptop is down.

Using a wireless router is very convenient. But you have to take precautions and put up security on your router. Otherwise, other people may hijack your connection and do something nasty without your knowledge.
It happened to a few people here where I am. The teens were caught hijacking the wireless signal and sending mass hoax bomb threats. They were arrested and prosecuted to the full extend of the law.
So, be careful with your connection when you go wireless at home.

Hi youless! Wow! I wish I could have that many laptops! haha..No, my router is not wireless and I do believe that if mine is wireless, then it will be much more convenient for me provided that I am still using a laptop. Right now, I am using my husband desk top.
Take care dear friend! God Bless You Always! lovelots..faith210

Yes i do because it is more convenient than having tto connect using LAN cables. I can use my laptop anywhere in the house witout worrying anything. One thing to remember though when using a wireless router is to make sure it is secured. You would not want other people outside your home to be able to access your connection for free without your knowledge. They may commit crimes online and the fingers might be pointed towards you since you own the connection.

I just bought a wireless router a few months ago. It's really useful and convenient, as I can bring my laptop anywhere in my house and still get connected to the Internet. Sometimes, I bring my laptop to the living room, going online and watching television at the same time. Also, without the LAN cable, it's so much neater.

We also have a wireless router here at home, its very convenient since my husband and I have our own laptops. There are times when we both have something to do in the computer and being able to separately access the internet helps us both to finish our work without having to wait in taking turns for the use of a computer with internet.

I have wireless router at my home too. For convenient and not to mess up with those cables. At first plan not to use wireless at home untill I buy my handphone (Nokia N82). The handphone comes with wifi function. I won't be able to use all the functions unless I have wireless at home. Therefore, I have no choice but to buy the router and it does not cost me much. Now I can link my N82 with my computer through wifi. So convenient and I can watch movie via my N82. Great gadget!!
Happy mylotting

Since there are many of us in the house, it was decided to have a wireless router. It makes sense because there are two desktops and up to 5 laptops during the holidays. I use only one desktop unless I am troubleshooting for the family. Since several neighbours have accessed the Internet without permission I have set up a firewall. I am not being mean. Whenever they were allowed to access the Internet they tend to hog the bandwidth, downloading many things including photos and videos. I use Aztech. I helped my friend to set up D-Link. In my opinion it is easier to set up using Aztech wireless router.
all the best,
rosdimy

yup, I'm using wireless router at home. I bought it a year ago. Before I decide which brand should I buy I made some research from the internet. So I decide that I buy ZyXEL. So far I have no problem using my wireless router.
Because wireless can be access by anyone within the range of its signal I set a WEP and change the key from time to time.
