The Meaning of Life (Dun Dun Dun)

It was just the other day in my World Studies class that my teacher asked what the meaning of life was. Such a big question for a pack of Sophomores. Sitting there I thought upon the subject as he went on with the rest of the curriculum for that hour.
I decided quietly that the meaning of life, in my opinion, is this... The meaning of life is the meaning you give it. Cliche neh? It's not the most life changing or profound sentiment. I thought on it for awhile though. I wonder if maybe the world complicates something like 'the meaning of life' more than it needs to be. Or am I over simplifying a subject that mankind has strove to understand for ages?
In the end I believe that each person ought to give their lives a meaning unique to who they are. The understanding of what we are here for might just be answered due to each individuals personal quest to fulfill their lives.
What is your opinion on the meaning of life? Have I got it all wrong?

A sophomore, oh my. That's quite heavy. If a professor asks you where you got it or whose philosophy you can base that on then just say "Sartre" and hope that he doesn't let you explain more hahaha Sartre had the same philosophy, saying that we weren't made with a specific purpose set already, that when we're born and while we live, we continuously pave our own meanings of life, our own personal "life project".

Why thank you, I think I shall look Satre up sometime. But it was a high school teacher whom asked it passively so I doubt he'll bring it up again. I found it amusing to think on and I'll keep Satre in mind when/if faced with such a question in College.

You have simplified it nicely, the meaning of life is the meaning you give it, it's something I couldn't agree more. Holding that philosphy, actually keeps me motivated and never too lost in life.
However, solving one question may bring up a new one. You may believe that you can give whatever meaning you want to give to your life, but what exactly "should" we live for? What meaning should we give to our lives? Yes, it depends on the individual, but how does an individual decide for himself what meaning to give. If everyone is an individual, it means that how other's life can show me little truth on what's best for me as what's best for others may not work for me.
I think you didn't get it wrong but you haven't got everything right as well. There is no easy answer in life, hope we all find our purpose in life. ^^

From my point of view, meaning of life, is where we can share our happiness, help people when they get trouble for something, Support our friend when they in not good time situation. Get involve in social network. Mostly everyone have a dreams, pursuing it, and make it comes true. Do your favorite hobby. See, many thing that you can do in your life, that the meaning of life in my point of view. Don't stop to make some creative idea, that make your life more meaningful.
