do you think writing phobia exists? have you seen people with it? I so often think of writting a book, or putting my thoughtsss down in a diary, but somehow never get around doing it. I don't really know the reason, but i just can't pick the pen and write. so I thought may be it's some time of phobia.

A phobia is a fear of something. Unless you're actually afraid of writing and have symptoms of extreme fear, then you don't have a phobia. More likely, you're just not really that interested in writing. Thinking about it sometimes but not doing anything about it is a sign of someone who isn't cut out to be a writer. So stop looking for a cause, and just go ahead and do things you actually like.

Nobody is born with writing phobia. It might be the lack of practice that makes you afraid of writing. Writing is nothing but putting down what you observe, and what you think, with focus on something special, or the topic, to share with somebody you want to share with. By reviewing the 5 Ws (who, what, when, where, and how), as you might be told, you can start writing. To write something meaningful, you need to develop the ability of observation, and the observation of details. You need also care about who you are addressing, as it sometimes has a lot to do with what you will put in the writing. Set off right away and keep your diary as a try.

no that would not be a phobia, that might be procrastination or a fear that you are not good enough but not a phobia.

I think you are not having a writing phobia. You are just procrastinating, like ME! LOL! I want to write a book too and I hope I will get at least one published in 2009. I have compiled some and needs to be rewritten, and get an illustrator. All the best to you!

Phobia is "a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it." Medical definitions even add that "the resulting avoidance results to panic, with some body processes such as blood pressure, respiration, magnetic skin response, etc. are drastically altered and may not go back to normal until such time that the phobia is physically eliminated." I must say that I know what phobia is. When I was about five years old, I was playing all by myself outdoors near our family vacation house up in the mountains when all of a sudden, a big tree nearby exploded into flames. I was scared. The place was so quiet and peaceful and all of a sudden, the fire was noisy and hot. I that I must have cried an ocean. They told me that I was still crying even when the firemen had already doused the fire and left. Apparently, the fire must came from a pit nearby where embers have been burning for days until they followed the roots of the tree and exploded into what they call "spontaneous combustion". From that moment on, I would cry whenever I would see fire, even if it was only a a small bush fire. When I became a little more mature, my parents made me attend a summer camp where we would be trained as fire volunteers. That was fun - playing with water hoses, ladders, and breaking down doors. But when the test fire was started, I heart started pumping hard and I had difficulty in breathing. I overcame the phobia only after a year of being exposed to it. Your avoidance of writing which you even call a fear, is really "a walk in the park".

Yes, I doubt you are afraid of writing (though I wouldn't be surprised if there is a fear of writing phobia), but it sounds a lot like me actually. Supreme writer's block. Or just laziness or procrastination.
