Last few days,I am finding a virus file xxyxWpMC.dll present in C://windows/system32.
I am having a online anti virus program of AT & T running in my computer. The above file is not deleted by the anti virus program, and shows as "infected".
I think because of this virus,I find 3,4 advertisements web pages opening up automatically when I come online.
I am not a computer specialist. So I have a fear,if I delete that file, the operation of my computer will be affected, because the file is in windows folder.
Can you guide me on this virus issue? Thanks

hello there...
friend, i suggest you DO NOT DELETE anything under the system folder especially all the files in windows folder... it's very dangerous to delete from that folder... i have been experienced so many times that's why i'm telling to you don't delete anything... well, what i can suggest you is to quarantine the infected file... once you quarantined it, the file will be blocked from accessing on the computer... by this way, you're completely safe rather than deleting the file... this is effective way to take down the virus...

To be more certain, do an online virus scan at www.housecall.com (they use Microtrend). If you have to delete the file, then you can do it, this .dll library file is not a Windows vital file. They just stuck it in there in order to make You think that this is a Windows vital file. But it's not.

on the contrary, some of these .dll are planted there by the creators of the unwanted software.

You should check your anti virus's quaranteen folder. It will tell you if the virus was quarenteened and another option if you are running xp or higher is a system restore. Do a restore back to before you got the virus and it should get rid of it. That has always worked for me.
Good Luck

FIRST THING TO DO:
Create a back-up copy of you system32 folder. This will be your "return to scratch" file. If you do anything wrong, just copy and paste this file over the other.
SECOND THING:
It's a .dll file so make sure that IT HAS NO RUNNING APPLICATION TREES. (in short, END PROCESS TREE)
THIRD THING:
IT won't affect anything... Just delete it NOW. Reset your computer. If that comes back again, it's a malware. I just hate malwares.
FOURTH THING:
If third doesn't work, then you need hire someone with experience. Sometimes, if in very dire circumstances, then REFORMAT your motherboard back to it's original state.
Toodles... hope it helps!

You do not reformat the motherboard, you reformat the hard drive. Basically you reinstall windows and completely wipe the previous install. There is no need to do anything to the motherboard, though if you did need to set it back to factory defaults, it is called reflashing.

When infected by a virus, you should check out the website for the company of the anti-virus software you want for removal instructions.
The file you mention, is NOT a windows system file, so it is OK to delete it.

IF you are sure the file is a virus.Don't remove it from the normal windows mode.Go into safe mode and then remove the virus.Try updating te antivirus or try using another antivirus to remove the virus. You can try avira antivir antivirus. Its very good in detecting and removing viruses.

We should not delete any file in the windows folder because all the files in the windows folder are very important for the system. Since that file is effected by virus you know way because you can not keep virus in your system or you can not delete that file i suggest you to install fresh copy of windows in your system or delete that file and repair the operating system

files located in the system 32 folder are vital files that Windows uses to run basic programs of your OS..there are many .dll files in the system 32 folder..each corresponds to a program/service on your computer and if you delete it,some programs on your system will not run properly..infected files are usually planted files that have identical scripts to the .dll files inside the folder..they are easily identified by their filenames which are extended filenames of existing .dll files like the one you mentioned..the original filename is probably WpMC.dll, the infected file is added with xxyx to make it xxyxWpMC.dll..
there are many ways to solve this problem..system restore is recommended but if it still persists you can quarantine it using your anti-virus,copy a clean file with the same filename(w/o the xxyx) from another pc and replace the infected one or block that file from loading at start-up through msconfig..also sometimes viruses like these infect other files in the system32 folder..if that happens, then the only solution would be to reformat..
to prevent this kind of incident, you should always download at trusted sites and scan the downloaded files..these kind of viruses are usually found in zips, rars and especially in .exe files..hope that helps..^^

System32 folder is very important for running the Windows operating system. In regard with deleting viruses, you better yet consult an expert online or offline before taking task that you're not familiar with. Most anti virus softwares can detect viruses easily but not all kinds though. My best advice would be to take the best alternative which is to reformat, and make sure to backup your scan and backup your important files before doing so.

That sounds really ugly. I had that kind of virus a couple of months back and it was really nasty. The anti virus program did not work and I didn't dare to delete anything from the program folder so I had to call a computer technician to the house and have my computer purged. The technician had to reformat my computer to get rid of the virus.

I would not delete anything from system32 as if you remove the wrong one, it could disrupt the smooth running of your computer. As your virus software cannot seem to delete the file, the best idea may be to visit a local computer store and have a word with the guys in there, maybe they would want to check the computer for themselves. :-) Derek

for you not to have much worrie about virus or trouble about. Why not format your computer anyway and do a full format so that your computer will be virus free or why not try to update your anti-virus..but the most thing that you can do in my opinion is to have a full format with your disk.
