can you understand the slang?

hi mylots,
if english as a foreign language or a second language for you,can you understand the slang,do you often used it? i'm curious about english slang,if it's practical ?
here anybody who can tell me ?appreciate!!!

English is my first language, and I like in the US, and yet some slang is still impossible to understand. I certainly use some, but in general I prefer proper American English to any kind of slang.
When I don't understand some slang that has been used I check it out on www.urbandictionary.com

yeah,the slang is limite to the regions,different region had the own slangs,isn't it?so i had come to know if the english slang is necessary for me~
nowdays i'm working hard to improve my speak english especial American english is more important than learn slang~~~right???lol...
