Christmas is the least environmentally friendly holiday of the year!

And birthdays are next on the list. And so, I have decided upon one of my New Years resolutions. I will only give wrapped presents to children, not adults. I believe that others should do the same. Ripping presents open is fun, but I think that confining it to children would lighten the burden of all the wrapping and tissue paper and all just a little. It is unrealistic for everyone who celebrates Christmas to stop wrapping presents, but if more of us make a point to restrict Christmas and birthday present wrapping to children, it would help. Hundreds of millions of rolls of wrapping paper, if not more, are sold each year. Presents are wrapped, ripped apart, and then the paper thrown away. It's environmentally unfriendly for two reasons. For one thing, all that ripped up paper just goes to the dump, and for the other, I'd be scared to know how many trees are hacked down each year for birthdays and Christmas alone. So, you guys can do as you please, but starting 2009, I will only wrap for kids.

That's why I don't wrap and I use gift bags. Gift bags can be reused over and over and over again. Saves time, money and the environment. I think wrapping paper is kind of useless really. I do miss seeing wrapped gifts under the tree sometimes but getting rid of wrapping paper sometimes is wonderful.

We do the gift bag thing in our faimly, too, although we still wrap some presents. Since the bag only gets used for about 10 seconds they can last for years and still look very nice.

that is one of the reasons, i prefer to use gift bags. the other reason is that i really hate to wrap presents! even though i may be fairly crafty at it, i just cant get the knack of wrapping. i say, gift bags all around (if you can do cotton bags that they can reuse, even better!)

I personally use gift bags whenever I can, and [ahem] tissue paper. I don't think kids mind at all, whether their gift is one wrapped in paper or in a gift bag, as long as it's something they wanted. I don't mind getting gift-wrapped presents, as we have a fireplace and can use the paper for kindling.

I like gift bags, and they are reusable, I do keep any and all wrapping paper. I use it for making my own paper and to cover kids books with, then give as a gift, my kids use it for their crafty projects as well,we also donate to the school for their art rooms and crafts projects as well. so if I get any wrapping paper I reuse it and create gifts for others. I have used the paper for scrapbooks, for decorating cards, cover CD's and other gift bags. so if you can reuse it then it also helps. but still a gift bag is a good choice. I do have lots of stickers and other goodies to add with my left over papers. lol
