Have Italians always eaten pizza the way we eat it (and the toppings we use)?
What is the origins of pizza? I don't know for sure, but I think that we have probably taken a traditional Italian food and changed it.
I'd love to know how 'real' Italians eat pizza and if it has changed.
What are your favourite toppings?
I enjoy ham and pineapple, as well as chicken and avocado...

Made popular in the United States by soldiers who brought the idea back from Italy at the end of World War II, pizza is thought to have come from early Egyptian flat bread. The early Greeks also came up with something very pizza like.

I remember seeing a special on pizza on the discovery channel, or something similar. It was said that pizza was originally a peasants food in Italy. And as it became more popular, the queen said she wanted to try this thing called pizza.
At the time, there was only tomatoe, cheese, and bread. I don't remember much more about the documentary.
I know pepperoni is pretty much an Italian meat, so I assume they added that and I'm sure other toppings.
My favorite toppings are pepperoni and black olives, and every now and again, I will have banana peppers on my pizza.
Thanks for starting this discussion, and have a happy New Year!!!
