Were you an awkward child?

I was sort of an ugly duckling, though not by regular standards. I was blonde and cute, and well-read. And a geek.
I had awful teeth before braces.
A long, long time with braces. To correct a kind of gross overbite.
Apparently, I have become a lovely woman. Since adolescence I've had no trouble finding admiration, to the point where I'm lucky enough to be engaged to a gorgeous woman.
I still see myself as an awkward preteen much of the time.
Any of you (men or women?) still have the same issues?

I feel the same way. I was short and I had a "big nose". My mom said that something was wrong with my legs when I was younger and I guess I walk kind of "stiff" as opposed to the "loose" way most black guys walk. One of my shoulders is slightly higher than the other one. Sometimes people give me compliments and say things like "You're cute" or "You're handsome", and I don't know how to take it. I've always viewed myself as this Quasimodo-type character until when people say I look nice, I don't see what they see.

LOL, well supposedly, black guys are supposed to have this sort of bop or rhythm when they walk. It's a joke really, I didn't mean anything by it.
