Last night my sweet little Bischon Shihtzu came home with me from my moms. I was sitting petting her and my hand came away STICKY. i got looking and from the looks of it my dragon found gum someone had dropped and rolled in it. So i spent an hour cutting her hair and trying to repair the damage the gum did. Lucky for my silly little dog that she spends most of her time indoors and only goes out to pee or play with me and i have "outerwear" for her. Because she is now pretty well close cut. Its a bad hair cut. Do you take your dogs to a groomer or do it yourself? Have you ever had a dog roll in gum?

If that ever happens again, before you get drastic and cut the hair, try using some peanut butter on the gum. It really works in getting gum out of hair and then all you have to do is give your pet a bath. It works for people hair so it should work in pet hair too.

I tried the peanut butter and i also tried the ice cubes on her hair too. I also tried bathing her because my dad thought it might be the tub caulking from the tube. It all didnt work and she was all clumpy and yicky (she looked awesome before i took her to moms!)

Maybe it was the caulking then and not gum. Peanut butter should have worked.

I prefer to do the grooming myself. It helps you to create a bond between your dog and the owner. I was tempted several times to take my rough collies to a groomer. But I would do a better job. I would save money if I do the grooming myself.

I agree it does create a bond. I give them terrible haircuts - my dad tends to do them for me because he says then the other little dogs wont laugh at Dragon for her bad haircut. I think taking them to a groomer when i or my family can do it...and are willing to would get expensive needlessly

My dog (who looks quiet a bit like yours and is also a shih tzu cross) enjoys rolling in just about anything but has not come across gum yet thank goodness. I try to groom him as much as I can but every now and then the groomer has to come over (maybe 2-3 times a year). It's funny though, I am convinced he hates having his hair cut but mainly for vanity reasons. After getting it cut he sits in front of the mirror looking at himself like "wow what happened here". It's cute.

Lol that is cute. Our dogs look soooo cute with all their hair i hated cutting it off! I try to brush mine atleast once a day if not twice. I tell her we're playing puppy parlor and she's in heaven before i finish telling her that.
